Babe, a lanai is nothing more than what they call the covered area just outside the back of your house before it meets with the open deck. It's where you can eat outside and put furniture and lamps out of the weather. Usually you have lots of open sliders or doors that extend the house to that outside living area.

A tropical word for covered porch area. ;)

Yes, mostly called lanai in tropical or semi-topical locations, often called "loggias" in other places.
