Thanksgiving greetings from the state of Washington...now, I know some of you probably think I died somewhere, and some of you dont even know who I am, but here I am anyway...just have not been on the computer as much as I used to be....seems like I just got awfully busy with other things in life...but have tried to read the DD threads every so often, and tried to keep up with what all of you good folks are up to...
Things here are moving along....BigDom is still working hard at the trusty post office, putting in his usual 11 hours a day, and a few weekends a month(we love that overtime pay)...but soon, very soon, that is all about to end...he will retire the last day of April of 2005, and I assure you, he is counting every day until his retirement is here....we have been busy getting ready for that day...
We finally bought our RV...its a big 31ft Class A RV....its a few years old, but only has 8thousand miles on it, because the owner(a very old couple), bought it and only got to use it for really a few months, when the old gent got sick and died...his wife did not know how to drive it, but would not initially sell it(for sentimental reasons, I suppose)...finally she decided to sell it, and a younger married couple bought it, and took themselves and their three children for a summer of fun...
But after the summer fun, they decided they needed to really buy a bigger house, and their one daughter would be heading out to college in a few years, and they really needed to bring in some more money...they loved the RV, but something had to go, so they sold the RV to us...its practically like brand new inside, outside, and under the hood....we had it checked it with an RV dealer and an RV mechanic, and told them what price was being asked for the RV, and they advised us to snap it up, as the RV, is like brand new, but at a really terrific price...so we ran off to the bank, got the money, and bought the RV, on the spot, and are thrilled with it...
We also bought another car, a Saturn, to tow behind, so that when in a campground or RV park for a while, we will have easier transportation, other than driving the big RV into town, or whereever...BigDom also bought himself a sporty red Firebird(hes reliving his youth)....he always wanted a more sporty car, other than our usual family station wagon or van, so he bought this Firebird...he will get use out of it while we are still here in Washington, and once we hit the road, Andy can have the Firebird and switch off and on with his Camarro...
So we have been busy what with our RV, and outfitting the whole thing...a nice excuse for me to buy all new linens, new kitchen stuff, just all new stuff for our nearly new RV...it was a dream for us for so long, so even when I see the RV parked in the driveway, I can hardly believe its really ours...
And then there is our Andy...he is just fine, happy at his job, and happy with his life and his new house, which he bought just about a year ago....nice thing for him, is that there is a small apartment on the ground floor of his house, which he rents out, and that sure helps with his mortgage...BigDom and I still go up to Seattle about every two months to visit with Andy, visit nice restaurants, sample lots of beer, and just have a grand time...
Andy will be coming down to Olympia, for Thanksgiving...dont know yet if its just for the day, or if he will stay a few days...he probably does not know yet himself...depends on whether he has a hot date up in Seattle that weekend or if he is free that weekend...well, we are always happy to see him, no matter if for just one day or for a few days...
Andy is already trying to figure out where he wants to take his next vacation...he just loves traveling, and so wishes he was independently wealthy so he could spend all his time traveling...he last trip, during the spring, to Central America, was for only three weeks, and he sure enjoyed it down there...but as he said, three weeks was such a short time...for his next vacation, he said he might try to visit Cuba, via Canada...but lately he has began to think about going back to Asia, to see VietNam, Cambodia, and Laos, as he missed them when he was on his world trip a few years back....so who knows where he will wind up for his next vaction...
BigDoms Aunt Nancy, living in Florida, died a few months back....so BigDom went down to Florida, for two weeks, and spent that time with his Uncle Pete...Pete and Nancy never had any children, and what with BigDoms father having died many years ago, Pete and BigDom are like father and son now...so its good that they have each other...Pete is 80, and was married for 56 years to Nancy, so his loss is really hard on him...the last 56 years of his life were spent with a woman he adored, so her loss is really hitting him hard...we are concerned about him, and his health, but he has lots of friends down in Florida, so hopefully he will not become isolated and too depressed....
Well, thats if from here...just wanted to check in and let you all know that we are fine...have had a few minor health issues, that we are dealing with, but nothing earth shattering...I suppose, when one reaches the age of around 60, the old body just starts acting up some...thats life, I guess....but we are still alive and kicking, still eating and beer sampling, and breaking a few occasional chairs(for those of you who remember our chair breaking episodes up in the motel in Seattle)....still seeing our Andy and still enjoying life...and for all of that we are thankful...
So, to all the DD folk...HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Thanks for just about the best Thanksgiving gift possible - it's absolutely wonderful to see ya here, friend. It doesn't seen possible that you guys will be hitting the road in a few short months!
Cheers to you and BigDom, and Andy.
