I remember cold all too well. My comments were quite tongue-in-cheek. When I lived in the central Idaho mountains, I drove a Ford Range pickup 4X4 because of the snow and ice on the roads. I figured if it was bad enough to have to chain up the four wheel drive, then the roads were too bad for me to drive on.

I had an in-line heater in the pickup for the really cold nights, like when it got below -20. There was one morning when it had gotten down to 50 below, and I had to go out to my job at the ski area. Unnnnggghhh.

The first place I lived in when I moved there was this crappy little cabin with an add-on kitchen and bathroom. The only heat in the place was a baseboard electric heater in the kitchen, and a marginal wood burning stove in the living room. It was so bad, I was afraid of it. I bought a new one to use while I lived there. Although I really loved skiing, I don't miss living in that climate.

Summers were too short. The ice didn't melt off of Payette Lake usually until May, and it wasn't unusual to get snow in September and October.

I love the long, hot dry summers we have here. It usually quits raining in April (although we can get a few sprinkles in May), and rainy season doesn't usually start again until mid-October. It's shirt-sleeve weather usually until November, and often times I only need a light jacket.
