They may have Arlen over a barrel. It would be vastly better for them to keep the seniority system, but I have to believe they have read the riot act to Sphincter. And now Sphincter will play ball and whatever it takes to save face.

Query: If Specter begins acting up and doesn't tow the line, can the Republican leadership remove him from the chairmanship? Or better yet, would they remove him from the chairmanship? Personally, I would rather that he not be the Chairman of the committee in the first place because the judicial issue is far too important to put in the hands of a RINO, but I would find some solace in the fact that something could and would be done if he starts acting up.

It will be a hundred times harder to remove Specter from the post later than it would be to deny it to him now. That's one of my chief reasons for objecting to the appointment.

I do believe Sphincter can be removed at anytime by a vote of Republicans on the committee. Doing it after he's been placed as chairman would be difficult, but not impossible.

I understand and agree, I would have preferred some other option than to have him in the chairmanship.
