A little too little too late.
Prairie
I think the only holdover from X42 was Norm Mineta. I don't know if he's even still around, but like G6 said, I expect that Dubya will tap John Breaux for Energy Secretary. No way will he allow a RAT anywhere near Defense, AG, or State.
Happy Housekeeping. I really should take a cue from you and dig in, too.
Ann Venneman was NOT a holdover, she was new.
Thanks, ABG!
Just this AM, hubby & I were praying that truth would come to light, that our Marines would stand strong and not be dragged down my this.
If this 'reporter' is backpeddling.....that's a good thing, indeed!
Thanks I.G.! I know someone was asking about her yesterday, so I wasn't sure.
The story does not source any administration people. The story infers that one of its sources is Grassley, and the other ones are likely all congress criters with various axes to grind.. i.e. people to propose for cabinet positions..
If Grassley gets his boy the job it will cost Grassley some votes President Bush dearly wants.
We are entering the horse trading stage. You appoint X to y job and I will vote for Z. People are just revealing who they want to have the jobs.. It remains to be seen what they are willing to pay to get them appointed.
Right now some congress criters are using the media to tell Bush, "I can be bought."
ABG, I turned the station as soon as I heard his X42 remark while screaming to the top of my lungs, "what are you nuts!!!!"
No, it's not my son's b-day. It's Iowa Granny's son that has a b-day today.
I know, I know. I'm being naughty again.
I.G., are you waiting by the phone for that call from the President to be Sec. Agri.? :))
Good morning, everyone.
LOL!
Unbelievable he would even think about saying something so stupid!
Good morning lysie.
Funny freepmail for both of you. ;^)
On the other hand, Bush owes Grassley BIG TIME! Grassley carried his water and worked tirelessly to deliver Iowa. Bush has talked about the Political Capitol he's going to spend,,, I would suggest that Grassley also has some political capitol to spend,,, he exhausted his supply of chits when he got that goofy Rain Forest for Jim Leach in Iowa City,,, but he's rebuilt his 'Chit Supply' during the election,, we'll see if he's willing to go to the wall for Johnson.
However, for what it's worth, my sources (just call me Rita Cosby) have already torn the Register's article apart and say Johnson is annoying the WH by campaigning for the job and is highly unlikely to get it.
Likewise, Combast is in the doghouse at the WH for mortal sins committed during his tenure as Ag Chair, and Bill Hawkes apparently isn't seen as a finalist, either.
I have a friend who served on the first transition team,, he's told stories about floating names,, just to stroke egos,, and to keep a smoke screen up to defuse what's really going on.
I don't think filling the Ag cabinet post is going to be their highest priority, so we may be speculating for quite some time.
