hi, miss annie! you know what is most striking, listening to the Dems and the post election analysis? the tremendous FEAR and loathing that the left has for religion and religious people. i just heard Sasha someone or other on F&F sneeringly refer to THE EVANGELICALS as the reason for the Bush victory. and of course, she thinks that the MAINSTREAM of the pub party is going to recoil from the religious side of the party. i don't buy that. i think that the mainstream of AMERICA is religious.
It is.
But, that's OK. Rememeber, Bush has no heir. We need for them to keep laboring under the delusion that they inhabit the center of American Politics, and we are a right leaning anomaly.
Now some smart fellows (Pat Caddell for One) will point out that Not only did Bush carry all of his states, but increased his margins in Gore states, Taking two, and almost 2 more large ones(Wisconsin, Pa) mandating that the let move to the right, but for now they are voices in the wilderness.
Let them stay there.
Our next (R) candidate (and it will not be Bill Owens, much as we would prefer that) will probably be a Social Moderate, meaning that those 4 million Evangelicals may stay home, and will have to be made up from Core Dem constituencies, namely
the 49% of Liberal Catholics Bush didnt get, and assorted others.
They will be unable to deal with a candidate like Giuliani, who I find infinitely preferable to McCanus. (My Pick for the last two standing in the 2008 primary season...)
Now, what is needed before then is Bush to get people on SCOTUS and DCCoA. If he does, then the next president doesnt matter so much on the Life issue.
The christophobia on the left is always boiling just beneath the surface. Every once in a while, it burps up. I saw that interview too - it's as if for a second there, I saw that broad's head do a 360 as she was spitting out her hatred for certain people of faith!
