Thursday, November 4, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/04/2004 4:17:28 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

Antinomy– noun

This word is pronounced an-tin-emee

Etymology: French or German.

1) Opposition of one law or rule to another law or rule: contradiction within a law.
2) obs An opposing law or rule of any kind: a law that contradicts itself.
3) (a)a contradiction between two philosophical principles each of which is taken to be true or between inferences correctly drawn from such principles.
(b) A statement embodying an antimony: paradox.
4) An apparent or real opposition, contradiction, contrast or conflict.

Good Morning, Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

Now I'm going back to bed for a while. It's just way too early for this sleepy head to get up.

Why must man's law so often be antinomious to God's?

One law - commandments,
Set forth by God,
For the flock he now shepherds,
With his staff and his rod,

New law - from man's mind,
Decreed then decried,
Splits neighbor from neighbor,
Until justice has died.

It's dark and damp here and 20 degrees cooler than it was at this time yesterday morning......we had to turn the heat on this morning because I forgot to close some windows when I went to bed last night.

-we closed our windows for the year in early Sept........heat's been on since then as well. It's gonna be a long winter.

Our FL dog didn't seem to notice the cold frozen grass, but our dog knew and put off placing her dainty paws on the cold grass until she had too. Too funny.

Poor doggie!!!!!!!

Weather is ridiculous. It was sunny and 70 at 7am yesterday and stayed that way most of the day.

It's been up and down and up and down for weeks here. Only needed a sweater for trick-or-treating saturday night.

We only needed light jackets or sweaters for Saturday night which is when the powers that be decreed trick or treating to be. It got terribly cold Sunday. We are freezing up here while we search out our winter coats. I see my husband rejected his light weight jacket this morning in favor of his winter coat for the first day today. Mine has been out for a week.

It seems skerry is the antinomy of a winning candidate. The Wages of Hatred sums up the last campaign.

We are still dancing in the streets up here. Went out to dinner last night at the Texas Roadhouse for steaks with friends last night. The husband posed with his "Fireman for Bush" t-shirt for our friends. After that the two guys in a nearby booth actually turned in their seats to watch us and eavesdrop for some twenty mintues. It was fun.
