Man, I've gotten to talk anime on two different threads today! Cool!
I'm kinda shocked that so many just watch dubs. That's just...wrong.
It's kinda like watching / listening to opera in a language other than the one it was originally written in. In very rare cases, it works...but most of the time it's ridiculous at best and all but unbearable at worst.
I guess that makes me a total snob.

Sam, it's called an arrow rest or shelf. Not necessary but convenient. Can be made of wood then covered with leather or built up of leather.
The 'bracer' or arm guard protects the inner arm from the string hitting it. It will flat sting and leave a nice purple and yellow welt when it does. I don't shoot with out one. Apparently you haven't needed it, but there may come a time. :-)
We is snobs, all right!
I have worked very hard to ensure every convert I make knows the right way to watch anime. And fortunately, our anime club is run by snobs, so I don't have to suffer through dubs there either.
And Japanese is such a pretty language to listen to, too!
I also grew up watching opera videos and certain foreign films...so I was brought up a snob. Heh...
Yup, yup... now if only the imported movies could be shown with subtitles in the theater. I wanted to see Spirited Away in the theater but I knew I'd hate the dubbing.
We show "Hero" and "Crouching Tiger" with subtitles! Why not Miyazaki films?
Because for the most part, anything animated is thought of as being for little kids...too young to read. Unfortunate...but I'm guessing that's the main reason.

Yeeaaahhh.... I'm imagining a four year old watching, say, "Fullmetal Alchemist". Suuuure.
No kidding. The gore in that was almost a bit much for me...and the chimeras freaked me out.
But you know they'd try and edit it with that in mind!
Eeep. Editing out the blood and death and horror. And of course all the emotional power and story along with it.
They did something like that to "Rurouni Kenshin". Went to absurd lengths like digitally editing out cigarrettes, and trying to pretend that sake is tea. (So Japanese folks get drunk on tea, eh? Hmmm...)
Well, I guess the sandwich is now a foregone conclusion. Thanks.
Speaking of which, did you notice that in the Harry Potter films they edit out any references to alcohol? And they don't allow the kids to go into the pub - as if there's anything wrong with a nice pub! During the day, especially! That struck me as a bit silly.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that! Bah. And the English are usually more sensible about alcohol than we are, anyway.
