The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm thinking of starting a blog for my NaNo project (and maybe some other writing), but have no clue what site to go to or how to go about it. I know some of you aren't blogging anymore...but do you know of any places that host 'em or that might have tips? I'm a totally clueless newbie in this regard, so be gentle...

It's raining here. The day I intended to go shopping for a bed. Which I would have to get home somehow.

Oh well...I guess I'll go looking anyway...

No, I can't afford to go to one o' them big fancy sto-wers that dee-liver your goods in a moving van...

OTOH, I can afford to stay away from those "stores" that operate out of the back of a stationary van...

Even our second hand places deliver for free here. You might be surprised!

One of the places I'll be looking is the Salvation Army. Last I was there, they had a couple pickup trucks, no help at all in rain. We shall see.

Thanks...I'll check there.

But now...I come the to conundrum that kept me off of FR for months...picking a screen name / username! Considering it's something you're kinda stuck with, that's a hard decision!

How about The Green Dragon as a title for the blog? You can remain Rosie...

Or did you have something more literary in mind?

Something like that could work. RosieCotton is already taken...but I can add my state to the end as I've done before. I've never found that taken anywhere.

But I'm thinking maybe I should use something entirely different, and there, I'm stuck.

I guess I gotta ponder a bit.

One of the things I think about from time to time...I plan to go to ShootMoot. I expect to see a lot of us there. I may recognize some from pictures..you and 2J among them...but I know few real names. I have a feeling I'll be inroduced to you and hear you called "Emily" or whatever, and turn around and call you "Rosie".

I'm terrible at names anyway :P

Heh...don't worry. Last Entmoot we used screen names and real names pretty much interchangeably. ;-)

You'll find we all respond equally well to both!

Here's a funnie for ya...

In HS I was always wearing my dad's (USAF) cast-off disinsignia'd field jackets and flightline boots in winter (before the youthful wearing of militaria became popular), and had an unfashionably (for the '80's) short haircut. Therefore, I was called "Sarge".

When I returned for my 10-year reunion, I had just made Sergeant in the Army, and wore my Class A's. Told the others, "Y'all always called me 'Sarge"...now it's true."

Hullo all and good morning!

38 degrees in the NW, and socked in with a thick fog this morning.

It just occurred to me that the Holidays are almost upon us.... Eeek!

2J has become you.... and Jen and Rosie are definately stuck with their screen names for me. So are Bear and Rose.

I think the only one who's real name seems to fit is Ruthy ;~D

Eeek! indeed.

My cousin/roommate and I have entatively decided on a monstrous real tree that will challenge the vaulted ceiling. Hope we don't come to regret it.

Hope we don't get an Ent by mistake.

Is that a typo, or a cool new word? ;-)

Of couse, having entatively decided, we may end up with an Ent.

Try "tentatively."

It's because her screen name ends with the long e sound....

RMDupREE
RuthEE

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
