That's a great history lesson from John Adams. I haven't read the McCullough bio, but several years ago read one about Abigail and found it fascinating. I have a little book "The Wisdom of John and Abigail Adams," edited by R.B. Bernstein, and their brilliance is just amazing.

Abigail wrote this to John on March 31, 1776 (original spellings):

I have sometimes been ready to think that the passion for Liberty cannot be Eaquelly Strong in the Breasts of those who have been accustomed to deprive their fellow Creatures of theirs.

That particular quote really struck me, too!

There are so many. You must treat yourself to this book. You won't believe how many of the quotes apply to our situation today, specifically on foreign affairs and intrigues.

Don't ya hate it when you have a great idea when it's too late!

Why, oh, why...didn't we Guildettes surrepticiously sign up with those Rat 527's to go out and "gather voter registrations"?! Can you imagine the "instructions"? I would've loved going to the FBI, offering to wear a wire to nab those scumbags.
