Mr. Sta-Puf is in my town today at a Town Hall meeting on education. How lucky for us!
The steering committee for the county's BC'04 campaign has been raising a stink about the event. Originally scheduled for during the school day, despite the fact that it violated the state law about use of school buildings for political purposes, they changed the time to after school. But in a reply to our committee chair's letter, the school board president told us that it's not a political rally - it's an educational event (for the children, dontcha know).
It's unreal. In a reply, I told her that on my daughter's first day of school, her history teacher informed the class that the Bush twins are drunks. She told me I should take up with the teacher (no kidding, did that when it happened) and that she had no control over what teachers did in the classroom. Then why do we have a school board?
I wrote to our local newspaper's editor to let him know how the school board was trying to spin this whole thing. Unbelievable.

It's just insanity, isn't it?

This is why people are home schooling - they would like their little mush-heads to be filled with truth, and they know that will not happen in public schools.
Good luck with it, First.

You need a new school board President, that one is either lazy, extremely partisan, or afraid of the teachers.
No control? Would that apply to other things that could go on in the classroom?
Not a good answer at all.

Lurch is spinning, spinning some more about Mary Cheney. He is to be on Paula Zahn tonight with more spin plus Paula asks him to name three mistakes he has made, ha ha...
Kerry Addresses Remark on Cheney Daughter (Again)" By a 2-1 margin, likely voters found Kerry's comment inappropriate, according to an ABC News poll out Friday. Bush also thought it was inappropriate, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.
" Kerry also was asked during the CNN interview to name three mistakes he's made. Bush was asked that question during the second debate, and Kerry has criticized him for not giving a complete answer."
" Kerry also gave a vague answer. "Gosh, I think I made a mistake in terms of the breadth of some of the programs that I have talked about in the primaries because the deficit was larger than we anticipated and we obviously couldn't afford," he said.

Looks like my lovely state is being graced by Mrs. Slick tonight...she seems very happy and gay to be in San Francisco...but whose watching Mr. Slick?

I just swung by the CNN interview. Candy Crowley was asking Effin about Iraq.
She quoted back his 1971 testimony saying "No man should be the last to die for a mistake". Then she followed up with his calling Iraq the wrong war, wrong place, wrong time---in her mind that says "mistake".
Crowley: So why are you saying we have to stay in Iraq when you said we had to get out of Vietnam?
Effin: Because they're very different. We have a war on terror....[What?!!]
Crowley: But you said it's not a war on terror.....
[Kerry LOOKS terrified at this point!]
Effin flubs around till he finally settles on: Iraq is a war on terror NOW! At that point I had to go back to Fox.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again just in case somebody missed it the last time I said it: The photographers assigned to follow along behind Kerry and snap informal shots absolutely MUST be a Republican.

Well, "the dresses" arrived today via UPS. The 12 was a bit snug but could probably be dieted into. The 14 was baggy in the seat. Both appeared to be a bit dowdy.
I am going to return them. I have a pattern I've been saving for years and I will begin looking for fabric soon. If I have to make it myself I will.
