I tend to buy flambouyant (especially jewelry) and then chicken out and don't wear it.

Life is hectic for me, too. I've been wondering about you.

The blood still rushes to my cheeks when I think about it.

My mama crocheted me one like this when I was in junior high. She had some leftover Christmas red and green yarn.

Nothing will remove the huge smile I'm sporting today after reading those.

I hate to be a downer, but would appreciate all of you going to my new thread and adding your thoughts. I believe Bush is losing this election and must come up with a way to counter the Kerry strategy I describe in the thread.

Bush is Losing

I have a vague memory from my one year in the Girl Scouts (age 10 or 11) of every member of our troop having a navy blue wool poncho, which I suppose we all had to make (fortunately, my mother's an excellent seamstress) and wear as part of our uniforms. If only I'd kept it! I'd finally be fashionable.

WASHINGTON - Al Qaeda thugs who cased New York and Washington financial buildings before 9/11 also may have considered taking down the Empire State Building, federal officials said yesterday.

A Web geek with ties to the highest levels of Osama Bin Laden's terror network was nabbed in Britain in August with a faded brochure for the landmark skyscraper, according to a Justice Department extradition request released yesterday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents probed Connecticut-based Web sites operated by suspected Al Qaeda operative Babar Ahmad, 30, which were used to raise funds for jihadists in Afghanistan and Chechnya, officials said.

The 1960s or 1970s-era four-page "tourist brochure" found in Ahmad's London residence had photos of all sides of the Empire State Building and detailed its "height, volume and construction," the legal papers said. rest of story

______________

With regard to one of these terrorists having a Connecticut base, some have commented on Edwards' reference during the debate to Al Qaeda being in 60 countries. Of course, that's probably true, but is he saying that despite this wide-ranging presence everywhere else, for some reason they didn't have anyone in Iraq? As we all know, at least according to Kerry, et al., Iraq and Al Qaeda had absolutely no connection ...

I'm praying retailers are dead wrong. Wasn't a fan of the poncho in the 70's and my heart hasn't grown any love for them in 2004.

As with all fashion ideas that have been brought back from the 70's DEAD, bell bottoms, hip huggers, halter tops, platform shoes, I'm hoping the poncho will return to it's deserved reward very soon!

I never wore a poncho, cause I was almost as overweight then as I am now, and ponchos DO look like horse blankets even MORE on fat women, than they do on skinny ones. And this trend of the little short poncho that doesn't even reach the waist is even more STOOPID looking than the regular length one! I will admit to having made and worn a crocheted vest, back in the day, but that's as far as I ever went with THAT trend!

My ex mother-in-law made me a brown and orange poncho with fringe about 5 inches long. I wore it with my brown hiphugging bellbottoms and my platform slides. Man I was cool. This was at the same time I had my "Sassoon cut".....oh the inhumanity of it !!!

Holy smokes!! You guys weren't kidding. I decided to check it out for myself so I got out my JC Penney catalog. Only found two--one a teensy one. So I decided to check the Chico's on-line catalog, the favorite of my ever-fashion conscious sister. Found several there and now if you say Dillards has them, it's true.

I love Dillards.

I'm really grateful for this info. This gives me an idea for Betty (my lunch partner). She's always buying me gifts. She's a shopper, I'm not. I'll get her a poncho.

Hey Carolina! Forgot to tell you in the last post I've missed you! Glad you came by to see us.

I wanted to post that oh-so hippie poncho but couldn't figure out how to make it small.

My mama crocheted me one like this when I was in junior high. She had some leftover Christmas red and green yarn.

It's stories like that one that make me feel better about my mom abandoning us when I was 10 years old. I just know a hideous knitting project was headed my way eventually. ;-)

As with all fashion ideas that have been brought back from the 70's

I seem to remember blue eye shadow came back for a time, I hope it's now gone for good.

This is sooooooooo appropriate for today. Hobbit Lass has wanted a poncho since school started. I remember them from the seventies. Horrid things. "If you want it, spend your own money. I'm only buying you clothes that I like too." I'm a mean mom. So far I've been able to divert her to other must-have clothing. At breakfast, she piped up, "See, Mom, even Katie Couric is wearing one."

We have to shop for black shoes and a couple of new tops this weekend. I am going to get hammered again.

"Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose." - Ronald Reagan

That's the same plan that Bush is using in Iraq today--only some people are too stupid to understand.

"See, Mom, even Katie Couric is wearing one."

Yikes! Wash out that child's mouth with soap for that blasphemy!

Just kidding. Katie Couric probably is a better 'fashion role model' than Britney or Christina.

Don't suppose you saw Kerry at Tipton. Rep. Dan kept giving me updates. His freshman son saw through Kerry wanting to outsource prescription drugs.

Dan said the Secret Service has told Tipton to leave in place certain things they used for this trip. Wonder if it means someone is coming back?
