The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And Legos are a heckofalotta fun...except when your little brother leaves them all over the floor and you get up (barefooted) to go to the bathroom at three in the morning and step on a bunch of them. Amazing how much those suckers hurt...

Mom has my old legos held hostage. She says she needs them for when grandkids come to visit. That and a quarter to a third of the old collection belongs to Empress. I had to buy a new collection off of Ebay :P

Luke found Jr's Marble Works after we cleaned out Jr's room. We've been finding marbles all over the place. With Nana coming home today, we just can't have that.

He's been told that "toys on the floor will be thrown away."

I think ours are mostly scattered to the winds. We USED to have so many that once or twice a year, Mom would have a great Lego roundup (to partially eliminate the stepping-on-'em-at-night problems) and give us a penny for each one we could find...and we generally all came out with a couple bucks worth. Kewl...

Heh...that sounds like a plan my Dad'd come up with.

I appreciate you guys! I mostly posted that for lots of people to see it so he knew he couldn't get away with just insulting me privately. If he's going to insult me, it better be something he wants everyone to see.

And Corin.... I haven't caught up here yet, but take care of yourself, hope you can feel better soon. We need you well!

eek! I was told I could have them all over my bedroom floor but not any where else and the bedroom had to be picked when mom specified. I usually could get her to allow any complex city or moonbase to stay on the floor as long as the lose ones were picked up (which never lasted very long).

That kind of personal attack is completely uncalled for.

The guy's too stupid to carry on a serious debate. He's not emotionally mature enough to be able to accept the fact that thinking people (of which he is not one) would actually disagree with him.

But, just because he is tragically scarred by some bizarre potty-training trauma he has no right to lash out with comments like he made to you.

Hmmm why do we test all our food products for compatibility with rats? It seems we are promoting rat infestation by filtering all our products for rat safety...

I might need more caffeine

Luke's only four, so he's not into the smaller Legos yet. But we'll have to restrict them to his room.

Nana's coming home after 8 weeks in rehab. She'll be using her walker. But the last thing she needs to do is step on a marble.

Sound like a reasonable mother.

My mom used to scowl whenever my jedis would wrestle...they are 3 years apart. Two rough and tumble boys rolling around "fighting" on the floor, laughing. My mom would snort and say "I'd never let MY children behave that way." And I replied "I doubt a 10 year old boy would want to wrestle with a 5 year old girl ANYWAYS."

Ah well, if it hadn't been this it woulda been something else.

What you gots ta do is get him big flat low sided storage containers so that he can sort through parts without 'needing' to spread them all over the floor. I use to have a drawstring denim bag that expanded to be a flat circle of denim about 3 feet in diameter. When you were done you could just pull the draw string and turn it into a sack again. Low flat rubbermaid tubs do the same thing. Another idea is a lego playing table with walls on the sides so that parts don't fall off. The 'only in the bedroom' idea is great but if your kid get really into legos it would be nice for him to be able to play in the living room or some place where the rest of the family is instead of spending a zillion hours by himself in the back room.

Let's see, wrestling with your brother at home.... or getting picked on by bullies at school. Gee, I wonder which one is better socialization.
