The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

This whole thing will be over soon. After all, a year from now it'll just be a big PITA you dealt with a year ago. ;-D

But I know about the whole running out of patience thing. First thing this morning, I had a client actually say "what are you, stupid" to me and I ended my day with a client sending in her 3 payrolls (the only ones I had today) at 5:15 pm, just as I was packing up to go home.

Believe me, things'll get better. ;-D

Bummer Scott.

Well, engage in a little silliness and slap Kerry, if that will help.

The whole SOX thing has totally crossed into sillyland.

For example: Imagine that some foolish company uses Excel Spreadsheets, for --gasp-- financial data. Every single spreadsheet must be catalogued and submitted to a managerial review process, and approved. Every cell must have the formula doublechecked and approved. From there on out, every single change to the spreadsheet must be submitted for review and approval before the change can be made, and then the change must be tested with a formal test plan, and then the before/after comparison must be evaluated by a third party, then the change must be formally accepted, and the new worksheet re-catalogued.

This is just for a stinkin spreadsheet. The same thing applies to every component of every system.

This is not hyperbole, and no, I'm not kidding. This is happening to us right now.

Thanks, sis! Do the ice cubes actually float in these drinks or do they sink? *wink*

That is the kinda stuff we do for flight-critical software on avionics. How the heck can an excel spreadsheet rate the full treatment?

The ice cubes float OK, but the straws dance by themselves... Some of the 'unexplained' you just have to ignore and hope it doesn't hurt you.

You're right... its the full development life-cycle applied to everything... even excel worksheets.

They don't rate it in the real world. But this is soxworld. It doesn't have to make sense.

The tryout is this coming Wednesday morning.

I actually had the best game I've had in a while... except for the state capital category, which should have been a no-brainer. I should see if I can get my wife to quiz me on them.

Back in 6th grade I knew both the state capitals and the European capitals backwards and forwards, and aced my test on them. I haven't exercised the knowledge much since then, and have forgotten some of them.
