Probably Jack Kerouak. (sp) He was very influential in the 60s.

Did you ever find the answer to your question? I'm reading M.S.'s book, The Enemy Within. (Excellent read, and quite funny in parts. And believe me, you need to maintain a sense of humor when reading about the "enemy within.") So far (I'm only chap. 2) he hasn't mentioned any three people as the group responsible for liberalism in the USA, but of the names offered in the posts above, Ruth B. Ginsberg, has gotten the most mentions in the book. I'll let you know if he names three in particular.
