That Nogales story sounds good; I should try that sometime. I just hate how you practically have to pull teeth to get anything up here. And, I pay enough in &$*#&)!!& health insurance - which I noticed today is tripling for my "dependent" (hubby).
In my job, I get caught in the middle of the stupidity of the WOD. There is no common sense in play AT ALL. Practically every kid I work with is on a plethora of drugs, and if the parents don't want their kid on drugs, they're considered suspect at the least, and negligent, at worst. Same goes for parents with "problems." If they have an open protective services case and are not on medication if they're "supposed" to be, then they are faulted for not acting in the best interest of the child/children. But let a parent take a drug, even one that IS prescribed, and test positive on a random drug screen (required in many cases), there is hell to pay. And God forbid that one smoke marijuana. I have a kid in foster care now, 17 years old, because he was smoking pot with his mom. I had nothing to do with the decision to put him in foster care. It was a police matter, and if the cops call us in in a situation like that, we have no choice but to take the kid. Problem is, now they can't even have overnight visits, because the mom keeps testing positive for pot. I mean, the bottom line is that we're supposed to make sure kids are safe. Perhaps smoking pot with your 17 year old isn't particularly responsible, but dangerous??? Give me a break!
