When this story first broke, I bought into the theory that Rather was "duped" or "had," as opposed to him having intentionally used forged documents. Now, with about 10 days of evidence to work with, I believe that the totality of the evidence is that Rather knew the documents were forged. He was told by at least two experts that the documents were suspect and at least one told him to definitely not use the docs, plus a host of other evidence that was availible to him.
Consider this: If the same quanity and quality of evidence existed AGAINST President Bush, would Rather have any trouble concluding that Bush had acted intentionally? The answer is OF COURSE NOT!
Why should Rather be given more of a chance?
The guy is 72. I am changing my mind as well. I think he felt he could get in one last good hit on Bush, and retire a liberal super hero, having won the election for JFK.
Yes, time to flush both 'johns' along with him . . . and the entire MSM (Mutant Sado/Masochists) as well. What is needed is a good plunger. CBS may fill the bill.
Rather wasn't duped. One doesn't rise as high as he has by being a fool. He has a well known, consistant record of absolute bias. He's been called on it many times...he was never fired for those insults, and he won't lose his job over this one either.

Wonder how much longer she'll be employed. I think SeeBS will ease Rather out within the next 6-12 months. Mapes may be gone a lot sooner. Pretty "manly" of Danny to let a woman take the fall for him!
Agreed. I think he felt like this was his one last chance at glory. If he had paid attention to his own experts BEFORE airing his hit piece, he would have lost that chance. Funny, but his haste to "get" Bush has sealed his "legacy."
You're not going to see any sort of apology, retraction, or anything similar from Rather till after the election, if ever. If they apologize now, instead of being temporarily screwed, Kerry will be totally screwed.

Danny won't apologize, but it is more due to his Montana-sized ego, lack of dignity, and hatred of Bush. Reminds me of Rigaberta Menchu (sp?). When she was found out to be a near total fraud, liberal academics claimed that the fact that she was a fraud was not important; it was her message that was important.
Yup, I think that's part of it, but there's also campaign strategy at work. After all, the object of Rather and CBS is to get Kerry elected, and if they're discredited by their own admission, they have no credibility what-so-ever with the undecideds and Kerry is guilty by association. I guess I'm more addressing people who think Rather will be fired by CBS sooner instead of later. But it wouldn't be unheard of for the documents to be put on a pedestal by libs like the example you gave. Can you see them all screaming, "they SHOULD have been real!!!" LOL
Rather is making more and more of a fool of himself daily. Firs, there is a virtual mountain of evidence available now proving that the docs were forged. The vast majority of this virtual mountain of evidence was available to Rather and Mapes BEFORE their broadcast. The two of them CHOSE to ignore this evidence and "get" Bush. Rather's claim of wanting to be the one to "braek" the story IF the docs are fakes is laughable. Buckhead beat him even before his broadcast ended.
Rather needs to apologize to Bush and do so without any type of qualification whatsoever. He will NOT do so.
I predict that mapes will take the fall. Look for her to be suspended/fired within a week. Part of the reason will be pressure from other SeeBS journalists who are EMBARRASSED by this scandal.
