It is also possible that mutated strains of the virus will occur over time. We could be seeing a bit of that too.

Here's a link to an old FR thread about the possibility that vaccinations actually provide protection for much longer than 1 year and that vaccinataing every year might be causing problems. It made me think twice about my vaccination schedules.
