Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Well, like I said before, I'd go with she was throwing a fit, and I would not be neck reining that horse. You'd have too much slack to gather up if she broke in two again. I'd put her in a bit that can get her shut down quick, and I'd be holding the reins where I would make contact with just the slight pull on the reins. A bit won't make a horse buck if it's bothereing them. If the bit is a problem they will most likely start tossing their head up and down.

So can you see the Mt. Saint Helene from where you are?

Howdy... (posted also in HH) Pretty cool volcano huh? No - we can't see this one... but we probably wouldn't have to go far to have seen it. Back in 80 we saw some of the larger plumes from clear view areas when the air was more still. This one dissapated pretty low, too windy.
The news crews are having a great time staring at a big ole hole in the ground now. ;~D
I offered to take ecurbh down there, we were gonna go on Monday until this new horse thing happened. Now we have to focus on that.
Dang Beaker. I thought I had it bad. Just tell her to stop screaming at you.
I'm going with it but ...... Nobody there believes me. I'm glad Eddie witnessed.
Well, we went out and bought the new horse a feed pan, a saddle pad, and a new halter and lead rope. ;~D
Sounds like yall are just about set;')
R&R is in order, after all that work. You all, have a great weekend. I am going to visit a friend, over the weekend. ;)
I have a barrel horse too:')
Yeah, I have to get the front yard mowed and then my husband and I are going to spend the night at the Island. No Net. No horses! I have no idea what to do:')
I do not have a new horse but here is a picture of a feral Manx mama cat. She lives in my barn and keeps the meeses at bay. She is small, a little over 6lbs, but don't let her size fool you. When you pick her up, she is all muscle and feels like spring steel. She walks in a crouched position, not upright like a normal cat.
The hope is that ecurbh's new saddle will fit her ;~D
Tomorrow we are gone all day, I hope we're ready for her to arrive Sunday!
She is a good horse and I think you have made a wise choice. : )
Cute kitty!!! :-)
She's not home yet.... not till Sunday. We have to be gone all day tomorrow so we put off bringing her home.
I know you are getting excited Before I type any further - Please forgive MY keyboard - soMething is goofy - I cannot type question Marks or sMall M's
- Guess what I got for My birthday today ...... The Medicine Hat Paint gelding...... We went over around 10 a M just to ride hiM. My children's riding instructor and her daughter Met us there.... First the daughter rode hiM with western saddle - he did great - then english - then I rode western - then My son - then My daughter rode English ( he is doing great with all these changes of tack and riders)..... But the clincher for Me - and the final reason I wrote the check - when friend's daughter was riding in ring - a neighbor's dog caMe bounding into the ring, barking and ran behind horse trying to nip at hiM. Owner was yelling at dog - the horse never Missed a beat - didn't shy, didn't kick at dog, NOTHING...I've never seen anything like it - he did not know the dog as he was only Moved to this barn on Wednesday....
So he was delivered today at 3:30 and is now out in pasture with our other 2. We put our 2 up at first for a couple of hours and let hiM explore the pasture and check out the other horses.....They had the usual little neighing and nipping but when we left theM - they seeMed settled down.
I have 30 days to change My Mind - but baring any unusual behavior - He is Mine!!! I will try to post a photo this weekend when I can.....
Thanks for letting Me share My exciteMent.....
WOO HOO! I am glad the medicine hat turned out to be such a great find! I really look forward to your pictures. We're getting pretty excited about ours coming home tomorrow, trying to picture how they will all get along when introduced.
