The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I am sure, she will wait till I hit the shower, or go inside to grab a coffee or something! Misty has a good sense of humour!

Just got up and thought I'd check before starting the house cleaning. Well, those babies will come when they are ready. An average is 342-345 days but I've had mares go 360days so you just never know.

Yep. We're close enough that our climates will be very similar.

I'm thinking about getting a storm shelter dug. Do you have one?

I am sure however, that it shouldnt be too long with her bagged up the way she is. Her behind is all relaxed and she is walking and stretching a lot this morning.
I hope it wont be when we are busy watching the kids open their presents tommorow morning about 5 or 6am!

Have the kids picked out names for the babies yet? I never can wait and have the names picked out before the foal hits the ground. Although sometimes it changes :) because a personality trait just screams to be recognized.

Ours are having their breakfast inside this morning... It was too early for many of us to want to go out.

Gidget dog trying to find a Christmas mouse... but none were stirring.

Well, Thunder is not a bad name for a mare either. And a mare Thunder wouldn't even have to feel particularly self-conscious about her thighs.

Heh... Lab-mation?

I assume all is quiet at your place, at least in the paddock?

Taking a little coffee break. No one here yet.

It's still cold, but the sun is shining nice and it actually doesn't feel as cold as the tempratures say it is.

I have the table set, potatoes peeled, broccoli and cauliflower cut up ready to be steamed for the cheese sauce, pies baked, snake table set, rolling out crackers for the city chicken....things are on time.

We had a couple of close calls last year and the kids have been bugging me about a shelter. It's really not a bad idea and they don't cost much to build, as long as you don't get too fancy with it.

A little sun makes everything feel a little cheerier! I smile at the horses when they go out and stand broadside in it, like a solar panel.

I definitely want a shelter at the lake which may be a problem since we are so rocky but we have to dig out for a septic tank anyway. Since a tornado scare we had here a few years ago I have wanted one. There is a place where you can buy prefabricated ones. Not very big but efficient. My problem is that if I have one I want it usable and not something I might need ever 5 years or so. I would like to have like a cellar with maybe a pool table and shelves for storage or something. Dream on I guess:')

Just got back from town. It's nasty out there. Walmarts lost power 3 times. I got there around 8 and sat in my car until they came back on the first time. Did some Bible reading. I didn't know that Walmarts on a generator though. Never thought about security and the food. They are even able to use the registers for an hour. Those heaters can blow too. It was chilly when I went in. Within 15 minutes I was taking my coat off.
