Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
And why shouldn't she like the comforts of life?
If they're seperated, they should be fine. The mares will pretty much ignore him if he can't get near the babies.
If he's a good stallion, do sell him unless you want to go into the breeding business. That way, someone else can use him and work him - he'll be much happier.
Yeah. I read somewhere that if you put it on both foals and her nose she can't tell which is hers. Or maybe I heard it at the stable. We have an orphan there. Momma thinks both hers.
Caz she gets horsey and wants to stay in the barn:')
That's a lot of draw-down on a mare. What happened to the momma of the orphan?
Maybe they could get breeding rights from who ever they sell him to.
A lot of times a stud is sold that way, so it's a reasonable request or condition of sale.
This reminds me when we were all waiting for news of JPs arrival:')
we have just got back in and she seems ok. We shall let you know of any changes.
Have a good night.
Thanks. You guys have a good night too.
These mares always leave ya waiting in the dark.
I don't remember, where do they live?
Georgia.
Well, you and I might still be around then if they foal tonight :) They're three hours ahead of us.
That's right!
I am soooo glad mine don't foal 'til later, weather is better (we hope) and days are longer. We've got cameras set up now in the two foaling stalls so I can watch them from the house until signs are pretty unmistakeable. Getting too old for the long cold nights in the barn.
That's pretty slick. If I'm not breeding racehorses, I would definately breed for June births here. So rainy any earlier.
What am I talkin' for? I have no need for baby horses ;~D
Hubby is walking around whining about all the work he's got with the twelve horses - and four more coming. I just reminded him again tonight - he's the one determined to breed a "sure enough good halter stud"
