I saw the movie "Marathon Man" (involving a fictitious Nazi living in South America) in Uruguay.
The opening scene show two indians paddling a canoe up a jungle river, identified as "somewhere in Uruguay".
The audience erupted in laughter, as there are neither indians nor jungles there. Nazis? Probably not many left there now, if there ever were any.
I love "Marathon Man." I thought of it the other day, when I was in my dentist's chair.
During the 80's I worked quite a bit in South America. Uruguay Paraguay, Ecuador, Argentina and some in Chile. I was amazed many many times to be cruising thru the back country and suddenly come across a small village that looked liked it should be in the Tyrolean Alps. Signs in German and everything. I asked very few questions. I just enjoyed the beer and schnitzel. This occurred all of the mentioned countries.
