It's the candidate, stupid!
John Kerry is going through a staff shakeup that is a ritual of every losing campaign. In are a bunch of party veterans, most associated with Bill Clinton, and out, or demoted, are loyalists who brung him to the dance in the first place.
Only the most incompetent person on the team is secure: Kerry himself.
He should look in the mirror if he really wants to find the problem.
With only two months left in his two-year quest for the White House, Kerry has yet to settle on a coherent theme for why he wants to be President. That's no small thing - without it, he can't really make the case that voters should fire President Bush and hire him.
All he can do is hopscotch around the country, taking potshots at Bush or coming up with juvenile one-liners, such as Monday's "W stands for Wrong."
That's the kind of moment that makes Democrats long for Al Gore, that paragon of decisiveness. Gore, remember, paid a consultant $15,000 a month to tell him what to wear and how to act so he would look more like an alpha male. ...

Aside from their candidate being the biggest dud this side of Jupiter, a bunch of new blood taking over will certainly doom the campaign. Dems are not a loyal bunch and 'not dancing with the one who brung ya', is going to make lots of people very angry. Angry people don't do their best job and I would bet they might be angry enough to sabotage the people who replaced them.
