I swear, you just can't make this stuff up. From the NY Times article on Dems dissing Kerry:
The questions about Mr. Kerry's campaign came as the candidate has...shown signs of what aides said would be a new aggressiveness on the stump and on television. You're seeing a different John Kerry," Mr. Vilsack said. "He was up at 12 o'clock at night. He was saying, 'I am ready to rock and roll.' "

Kerry is taking today off at his wife's farm in Fox Chapel, Pa., to celebrate the 31st birthday of his eldest daughter, Alexandra.

LOL!

Good golly, that NY Times article just gets better:
Some of the criticism of Mr. Kerry's campaign was cosmetic. Several Democrats said they were not happy to see news photographs of Mr. Kerry windsurfing in the Atlantic waters off Nantucket during the convention, suggesting that it underlined the very image of Mr. Kerry - as a culturally out-of-touch wealthy Democrat - that the Republicans were trying to convey.

"I might have gone windsurfing - you certainly have a right to clear your head,'' said Mr. Rendell, a former head of the Democratic National Committee. "But I'm not sure I would have taken the press with me."

...

"All of a sudden Kerry is on the defensive about his service and Bush is on the offensive about his service," said Senator John B. Breaux of Louisiana. "It's absolutely amazing."

Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan said: "I think it is very critical that you don't answer a tuba with a piccolo. If he's hit, and he will be, he needs to stand up and fight."

Is Granholm calling Kerry a "piccolo"?

If you're still up SNL starts a new season tonight.

It'll be interesting to see what absurd element of Effin's character they extract for derision. Of course, they'll go for "balance" by bashing Bush, too.

Oh, the horror, having to choke down that swill known as American beer. He looks like he's about to gag. Quick, bring him a bottle of Veuve Cliquot! And a tin of caviar, thanks.

That doofus was in Steubenville this afternoon. The local TV stations carried the rally live, but I just didn't have the stomach to watch (except to note that he seems to have arrived about an hour and a half late). Besides, "North by Northwest" was on. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that some kids from the conservative Catholic college in town were there to protest his views on abortion, thread here.

Oh please, let's just get x42's heart surgery over and done with, already. First it was said the operation would be Saturday (um, that is today, isn't it?), now the NY Times says only that it will be sometime early this week, with no specifics. It's odd, we know Hillary doesn't want Kerry to win, because then she'd have to deal with an incumbent Dem in 2008, but it seems to me that all this media attention on x42 detracts from Bush immediately following his boffo GOP convention. The Times writes:

The operation was expected to sideline Mr. Clinton for weeks during the height of the presidential campaign, in which he had been expected to play a prominent role on behalf of the Democratic nominee, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts. Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said before Mr. Clinton was hospitalized that the former president was scheduled to make 10 campaign appearances for Mr. Kerry in September, and that he was to stump extensively through October.

Assuming Kerry really wanted Clinton to campaign for him, how good a job could Blubba afford to do (for the sake of his loving spouse, that is)?

"You're seeing a different John Kerry"

After Thursday's midnight despicable rally, Kerry was drunk or drugged, angry, lying and stupid. We all know it. The Times is convincing no one, and when this is all over I hope their sales go down.

I think we're very close to seeing a collapse of the Times' agenda-setting role in the secondary media: local newspapers, network news, etc. All my life, whatever the Times put on their front page, it was a given that it would be in your hometown paper or on the evening news.

But that's changing now, with so many papers on line. It's a good thing.

Important Answers to Health Questions

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this
true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't
waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer?
Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn - and what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular
exercise program?

A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain... Good.

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated with it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: What's the secret to healthy eating?
A: Thicker gravy.

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO???!! Cocoa beans are another vegetable!!! It's the best feel good food around!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

Last point, if swimming is good for your figure - explain whales to me.

Part One: What I did at the RNC Convention

I arrived in NYC shortly after 3:00 pm on August 26th. After a $25 (including tip) cab ride to my hotel, and shaking out my clothes, I took to the street to find food.

I found a Deli close by where I purchased some fresh fruit & cheese, and a liter of Diet Coke. I went back to my room, changed into comfy clothes and settled in to read on my selected reading for the week: Misunderestimated, by Bill Sammons.

Friday morning I was up early to shower and to attend the Rules Committee Meeting. I caught a cab to a Hotel to pick up my credentials, which were necessary to have to get into the Rules Committee meeting.

The Hotel was on 43rd St. But I transposed the numbers and asked the Cab Driver to be delivered to 34th St. When the cab driver let me out of the cab I knew I was in the wrong spot. I quickly found a policeman and asked for directions. Then I said a silent prayer of thanks that I had had the good sense to toss a pair of low heeled shoes into my tote bag before I began my adventure.

I leaned against a store building, kicked off my high heeled shoes, put on the flats, and started walking. I arrived at the correct address in plenty of time to get the Credentials, but not before I was taken back by a sniffing dog who had to go thru my tote bag before the uniformed guard would let me proceed to the registration table. Once I had my materials, I boarded a shuttle bus to proceed to the Javitt's Center (sp?) for the Rules Meeting.

Enroute to the Javitt's Center I was intrigued by the snow fence and livestock gates which were utilized for crowd control. But I certainly was not amused when we got close to the Javitt's Center and there were guards cradling M-16's in their arms at each intersection. At one point, the guards had our bus driver stop, turn off the engine and lift the hood so they could inspect the motor before we could proceed, while other officers laid on those things auto mechanics use to slide underneath the bus to inspect the underside.

Once at the Javitt's Center, police met the bus and hurried us inside. Inside we waited our turn to go thru a metal detector and had our bags searched, then proceeded to our meeting which lasted until 3:00 pm.

Once the meeting was over, a woman I met during lunch and I took a cab to Canal Street (which had been recommended as a great place to purchase "knock offs"). Canal Street was dirty and smelly. The merchants looked 'suspect'. I bought 3 little purses covered in tiny plastic iridescent flowers to put in the 3 granddaughters' Christmas socks.

We didn't stay there more than an hour. I was very uncomfortable there. We took a cab back to my hotel and went to dinner at a nearby restaurant. I had some really great crabcakes. We sat outside and watched the world go by. I was in my hotel room by 8:00 pm, snuggled up in the chair reading Misunderestimated.

Saturday morning I slept until I woke up,, showered and ventured out to inspect 5th Avenue. As luck would have it, I had to walk thru the Diamond District to get to 5th. I found it interesting that the merchants in the Diamond District stand outside in an attempt to lure passers by inside. This strange practice tempered my desire to look in the windows, but I got brave and did it anyway several times.

I eventually made my way to Lord & Taylor where I spent quite a bit of time,, enjoying their air conditioning and 'just looking'. I also wandered thru a Pier One and several home decorating places. Eventually, I found 42ed street and headed toward Macy's. I bought a white sleeveless T shirt to wear under a white V neck cardigan. It was on sale,, I paid $7 for it.

I also found a drug store where I purchased a large can of almonds and a liter of Diet Coke then headed back to the hotel. After unloading my stuff, I headed back out and found a Deli. The Deli had a great selection of fruit and cheese, I purchased some to take back to the hotel with me as well as a slice of Pound Cake, which I later became addicted to. When I arrived back at the hotel I found a friend who had just arrived and we went down the street and had an early dinner. She was exhausted from travel. Soon I was back at the hotel reading Misunderestimated.

Sunday morning I watched a Catholic Mass on television, and met my friend Neets at 10:30. The time just flew. We found a cool place in the shade to sit and visit awhile, it was like catching up with an old friend.

The GOP had a room full of political giftwares for sale so Nita and I decided it should be closely inspected. There was a vendor with "W" Ketchup,, and a vendor with Flip Flops,,, the price kept changing on the flip flops. What a hoot! There were lots of T-shirts, jewelry, Christmas Decorations and other good stuff available from about 30 different vendors.

Once we were finished with seeing all there was to see there we ventured across the street to an outdoor restaurant where we each enjoyed a long leisurely lunch, each ordering a fruit plate. Soon it was time for Nita to head back to catch her train home. Where had the time gone? She'd just arrived.

We walked back to the hotel, where she caught a cab to the train station, and I headed upstairs to prepare for an evening at the Theater, courtesy of the City of New York. When I got to my room, I flipped on the TV and saw live coverage of a protest which was occurring about 5 blocks away in Times Square. Protesters set fire to something and the police called the fire dept in to extinguish it.

Iowans were assigned to see Bombay Dreams, which was playing a block away from the hotel.

As the Iowa Delegation walked toward the theater, there were several protesters lining the street. They carried signs and spewed filthy language at us. Several call to us to Go Home, We HATE you!

Once inside the theater we were given some nasty tasting champagne. I needed a drink of water to rinse my mouth when I finished it. The souvenir champagne flute (plastic) made it home without being cracked.

Bombay Dreams was a musical, filled with lots of dancing. Just full of energy. I wasn't enthralled with the story line, which involved transvestites, but once I was able to dismiss that and just enjoy the music and dancing it was enjoyable.

When the play was over we were told that we would have to stay inside the theater until police protection had arrived, as there was a large unruly group of protesters outside. After about 20 minutes the doors opened and we were instructed to walk between the lines of police officers who were forming a human fence to keep the protesters away from us. The human fence extended about half way to the hotel.

When we reached the hotel, many of the delegates struck out across the city to have dinner. I decided I didn't really care to take the chance of going out and being confronted by the "Dim Wits" again, so I went to the Deli and picked up some great Tuna Salad and another slice of Pound Cake (thank God they sold it by the slice,, I'd have probably purchased an entire loaf if I'd had that option), which I took back to my room and ate, along with fruit and almonds.

It was at this point that I decided I wouldn't spend a dime more than absolutely necessary in that City. Granted the merchants of NYC were not protesting,, but I found it disappointing that no one, except the paid police officers, were making any attempt to negate the protesters activities.

I read on Misunderestimated until I was ready to sleep.

End Part One

It's getting to Teresa:

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites), was taken to hospital in Iowa on Saturday complaining of an upset stomach and was released after routine tests, a spokeswoman said.

Heinz Kerry went to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa during a stop in Mason City where she was campaigning on behalf of her husband.

"As a precaution, Mrs. Heinz Kerry had a series of routine tests performed and was released," spokeswoman Sarah Gegenheimer said. "She is feeling better and is traveling tonight back to her home in Pittsburgh as planned."

We need to send Art Bell over to the NYTimes - there's a bizzaro world housed in that building!

No need for that. They've got Frank Rich to play that roll. Warning: this is really vile.

Only in an election year ruled by fiction could a sissy who used Daddy's connections to escape Vietnam turn an actual war hero into a girlie-man.

...snip...

the special Madison Square Garden runway for Mr. Bush's acceptance speech, a giant phallus thrusting him into the nation's lap, or whatever.

...snip...

Of late, Mr. Bush's imagineers have publicized his proud possession of Saddam Hussein's captured pistol, which, in another of their efforts at phallic stagecraft, is said to be kept in the same study where the previous incumbent squandered his own weapon of masculinity on Monica Lewinsky.

But with the high stakes of an election at hand, it's not enough to stuff socks in the president's flight suit...

This column is so vile and hate filled, it makes me, for the first time, really worry about the president's safety.
