The Guild 9-4-2004 Convention Redux

Posted on 09/04/2004 4:32:14 AM PDT by BigWaveBetty

The 2004 Republican Convention is over but it was a good one. The GOP Convention will be the most historic political convention in our time. "A well oiled machine," is the phrase most heard the day after as delegates made their way home. Even the balloon drop went off without a hitch or foul words.

The speakers gave remarkably meaningful, important speeches to pump up our party and reminding the American public that pretending terrorism isn't a big deal doesn't make it go away. If you want a better, safer world for your children and grandchildren to grow up in, vote for our president,

George W. Bush!

Oh, and don't vote for that sitzpinkler John Kerry.

Hopefully we can coax Iowa Granny and Hillary's Lovely Legs into telling us all about their convention adventures.

.

There's always a straggler.

What is with all these odd camera angles?

I suspect the photographers are so bored having to cover Lurch's stupifying campaign speeches, they're just playing around with shadows, angles, silhouettes, etc., to keep from falling asleep or going nuts.

Well, Hurricane Frances is having her last hoorah in our little neck of the woods today - lots of rain and wind, and three brief power outages so far. I have to hurry and post this before it goes out again! Grrr.

I marvel at your good ideas! Daughter has been telling me that Laney wants some dress up clothes for Christmas and thanks to you I don't have to just settle for a few dresses, (they make dress up dresses ya know, fer a purdy penny!) I can go hog wild! Shoes, bags, stuff!!! It could be a dress up extravaganza!

I'm so grateful for my friends at The Guild,,, And with a smile of gratitude I ask myself, why didn't I think of that? :-)

Thank you!

John Kerry is going through a staff shakeup that is a ritual of every losing campaign. In are a bunch of party veterans, most associated with Bill Clinton, and out, or demoted, are loyalists who brung him to the dance in the first place.

Aside from their candidate being the biggest dud this side of Jupiter, a bunch of new blood taking over will certainly doom the campaign. Dems are not a loyal bunch and 'not dancing with the one who brung ya', is going to make lots of people very angry. Angry people don't do their best job and I would bet they might be angry enough to sabotage the people who replaced them.

New 9/11 Film to Premiere 9/11/2004

I can't be sure but I think this new 9/11 film is from a bunch of kooks who believe that the events of that day were a government conspiracy.

I caught some of a 'Coast to Coast' program a few weeks back, the guest was a whack job who has produced a movie with all sorts of theories like, notice how the are no windows on Flt. whatever as it hits the tower? And... what's that bulge on the bottom of Flt. whatever? Could it be a drone mechanism? And the whole it was a bomb or a missile theory that blew that huge hole in the Pentagon, never mind the hundreds of witnesses on the ground who saw the airliner pass over their heads and crash into the Pentagon.

I'm guessing this is the one because of that part in the trailer where they focus on what looks like an explosion at the bottom the towers just as one starts to crumble. Then the audio where somebody repeats, "explosion on floor 7...."

The trailer seemed pretty cheesy, something say, a kook would put together. But of course I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. :-)

I go to Wendy's sometimes to get a chili, and I don't know what the fat content is. .......I try to eat healthy. I had a banana and slices of green pepper for lunch today.

Sweet mercy, how awful. I hope no one had to watch her eat that concoction.

I'm unsure what to make of the Air Guard stuff.

A) I don't think it matters to people, but there may be a few and we can't afford to lose any right now.

B) Their mantra is "nobody has come forward to say they saw him in Alabama". But I just saw a man interviewed last night who was there and said he DID see him. I read somewhere else that there are several men who say they saw him there. So, I can only assume the very smart Bushies are biding their time before they trot these guys out. Dunno, though.

C) I wish they would replay that VERY GRACIOUS statement Dubya made last week that Kerry's service was more admirable than his...BUT he's proud of his own service.

Hubbie saw a guy on TV who was Bush's Commanding Officer,, he said GWB worked in his office.

I heard someone mention this today. I was working and had my back to the TV screen, so I'm not real clear on 'who' said it. But there apparently are people out there who can vouch that Bush served his time. And as the young man said,,, "If he hadn't served his time, he wouldn't have gotten an honorable discharge."

The man I heard interviewed last night (Calhoun?) said he didn't know until recently that it was GWB. He said over the years he'd remembered that he knew "the Bush who was a fighter pilot", but that was all. When all this came out in the spring, he realized it was the president. I also got the impression there are others.

I don't understand why, with him out there saying that, we keep reading and hearing that "no one has come forward to corroborate Bush's time in Alabama".

My vote is for biding their time, let Kerry have enough rope then... yank!

Col. William Campenni writes two very detailed summaries of the National Guard story.

Letters to the Editors: 'Bush and I were lieutenants' and this most recent article from September 1st: Answering Kerry's questions

It might be wishful thinking but I believe people will remember W's graciousness over rehashed nonsense.

Oh that magnificently magnanimous Moore! He has decided to forego an Oscar nomination so that many more Americans can see his dreck before the elections.

Fahrenheit 9/11: 'The Less That See It, The Better For Bush'

Michael Moore has pulled his controversial Fahrenheit 9/11 out of contention for a 'sure bet' Oscar nomination for Best Documentary in a bid to get the film shown to a wider audience on broadcast TV, and influence the outcome of this year's heated Presidential Election.

According to a recent Gallup survey, more than half of all American adults have either seen or expect to see Moore's wildly popular movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, a critical look at the Bush administration's decision to go to war with Iraq. The poll, conducted July 8-11, found that 8% of Americans said they have already seen the movie, 18% expected to see it at a theater, and 30% expected to watch it on DVD or home video.

The poll also found that generally Americans had a more unfavorable than favorable impression of the movie, 'but those who have seen it are overwhelmingly favorable. Democrats and Republicans have sharply different views, as do younger and older people.'

In an informal poll conducted by Moore's pollster friend -- who formerly worked for the Republicans -- he found that the 80% of the Fahrenheit 9/11 audiences in three different cities were essentially likely Kerry voters, but 'the movie has galvanized them in a way you rarely see Democrats galvanized.'

Though Moore says that '20 million people' have already seen his film, he is worried that the right people are not seeing it.

'The less (people) that see it, the better for Bush,' Moore's pollster friend told him. So Moore now wants the people who aren't as prone to voting for Kerry in the audience.

Moore has already assured an October release of Fahrenheit 9/11 on DVD and home video, but he now wants to do more to get the movie out to the American public before the November 2 election.

He has his eyes on broadcast TV, where a wider American audience is ripe for the viewing. To do this, Moore will have to sacrifice his bid for a Best Documentary nod, since under Academy rules documentaries are ineligible for Oscar consideration if aired on television or the Internet within nine months of their theatrical release.

'If there is even the remotest of chances that I can get this film seen by a few million more Americans before election day,' Moore said, 'then that is more important to me than winning another documentary Oscar. I have already won a Best Documentary statue. Having a second one would be nice, but not as nice as getting this country back in the hands of the majority. Link

So sure was Moore, that he would win an Oscar! His title must be changed to: magnificently modest magnanimous Moore.

Martha patiently waits her turn:

Troubled lifestyle guru MARTHA STEWART is ready to start her prison sentence - but there aren't any free cells at Danbury Federal Prison.

The domestic goddess was sentenced in July (04) to five months in prison and five months of house arrest after she lied about the sale of her IMCLONE stock three years ago (DEC01), reports gossip website PAGESIX.COM.

An insider at Danbury Federal Prison says, 'There is no available bed at Danbury, and hasn't been for a couple of weeks. She's just waiting.'

ANNA CORDASCO, a spokeswoman for Stewart's legal team, adds, 'She is exploring her options and is committed to doing what is right for her company.'

Ahhhhhh, the Joy of Almonds

Almonds Make a Diet Better

Can one food help to make a diet better? According to researchers at Loma Linda University in California, almonds just might meet that standard. A new study finds that when individuals added almonds as a snack to their regular diet, their overall intake of several important nutrients increased. The findings indicate that incorporating almonds into a diet may promote the natural displacement of less nutrient-dense foods, making the overall diet better.

For one year, researchers followed eighty-one men and women, ranging in age from 25 to 70 years old, to evaluate the long-term impact of a diet supplemented with almonds. During the first six months, patients in the study followed their standard diet. For the next six months, they added an average of 52 grams of almonds per day (approximately two one-ounce handfuls) to their routine.

After incorporating almonds into their diets, patients demonstrated a significant increase in their intake of several nutrients, including monounsaturated fats (42 percent), polyunsaturated fats (24 percent), dietary fiber (12 percent), vegetable protein (19 percent), alpha-tocopherol vitamin E (66 percent), magnesium (23 percent), and copper (15 percent). Meanwhile, researchers found a decrease in patients' intake of trans fats (14 percent), sodium (21 percent), cholesterol (17 percent) and sugars (13 percent).

These findings are particularly timely, as the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recently released its report on Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2005. In the report, Vitamin E, magnesium and fiber were each identified as nutrients that are currently not adequately consumed. Meanwhile, the Committee also called for low intake of saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol.

'The changes we saw in nutrient intake are consistent with the dietary recommendations experts make to reduce the risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases, including recommendations recently set forth by the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee,' said Karen Jaceldo-Siegl, DrPH, of Loma Linda University, the study's lead researcher. 'We found that those who ate almonds tend to naturally balance their calorie intake. So, even though they were introducing an additional food into their repertoire, they were making appropriate dietary substitutions so there was not a significant change in body weight.'

Researchers also noted that not only did the nutrient profile of the almond supplemented diet meet dietary recommendations, but it was also well above the average nutrient intake of the general population.

'This study demonstrates that consumers can get a real nutrient boost from incorporating a nutrient-rich snack like almonds into their daily routine,' said Elizabeth M. Ward, a registered dietitian. 'We've known almonds are a delicious, crunchy and satisfying snack. Now, we know they can also help deliver important nutrients our bodies need, and that experts recommend.'

Kerry Lead Narrows In Sandwich Poll

John Kerry's lead drops from 62% last week to 51% in New York's Stage Delicatessen's Presidential Sandwich Poll. The poll, decidedly unscientific, lets patrons cast presidential ballots by selecting the 'George Bush' or the 'John Kerry' sandwich - which are identical except for name.

Stage co-owner Steve Auerbach is getting ready for the upcoming Republican National Convention. 'We have increased our orders of mustard, rye bread and cheesecake because straw polling shows strengthening support for the President. Since there may be considerable traffic congestion, we had our suppliers deliver early.' states Auerbach.

The restaurant, located at 834 Seventh Avenue, is beginning its seventh week of the poll. The customer base is a cross-section of the New York voting population, and due to the many people visiting the city and making the shop a priority stop, a cross-section of the nation.

For the media who must remain neutral during the convention, they are making a sandwich that is half Bush and half Kerry. 'People from the media have to eat when they are in New York,' acknowledges Auerbach. 'They shouldn't have to go without Stage Deli sandwiches because we are conducting our poll. To allow them to eat-and maintain neutrality in the election-we are making a special sandwich for those who report the news.'

J. Markson Link

The media maintain neutrality? Woo hoo, that's a knee slapper!

Sharon Bush Denies Kitty Kelley Account

By Howard Kurtz Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 9, 2004; Page C01

President Bush's former sister-in-law denied yesterday that she had given author Kitty Kelley any information about allegations of past drug use by Bush.

Sharon Bush is quoted in Kelley's forthcoming book about the Bush family as making one of the allegations, and Kelley's editor said in an interview Tuesday that she had provided "confirmation" for the information.

But Sharon Bush, who is divorced from the president's brother Neil, said in a statement: "I categorically deny that I ever told Kitty Kelley that George W. Bush used cocaine at Camp David or that I ever saw him use cocaine at Camp David. When Kitty Kelley raised drug use at Camp David, I responded by saying something along the lines of, 'Who would say such a thing?'

"Although there have been tensions between me and various members of the Bush family, I cannot allow this falsehood to go unchallenged."

Doubleday, Kelley's publisher, was quick to dispute her account.

Teresa has spoken, we are idiots.

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Teresa Heinz Kerry said Wednesday that "only an idiot" would fail to support her husband's health care plan.

Kerry's proposal includes health care subsidies for children, the unemployed, small companies and more; and government assistance to insurers and employers that keep premiums for workers down.

If Kerry is elected, Heinz Kerry predicted that opponents of his health care plan would be voted out of office. "Only an idiot wouldn't like this," she said.Yawn.

Yeah, we're the idiots.

Uh-huh, and just where does she believe that government "assistance" originates?

My fellow Americans, I, too, am an idiot.

I want to see the headline: 'Heiress donates Entire Fortune to Fund Healthcare.'

Until then, she can just shove it.

LOL!

In all the kerfuffle over Kerry's Iraq comments Tuesday, I missed that he'd told a supporter in the crowd that he would create a "Department of Wellness". Not within the Dept of HHS, but a whole NEW department!

At this rate, Kucinich's Department of Peace can't be far behind.
