Word For The Day, Friday, 9/3/04
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
POSIT: verb. (pa-zit) tr.v. pos·it·ed, pos·it·ing, pos·its
1. To assume the existence of; postulate. See Synonyms at presume. 2. To put forward, as for consideration or study; suggest: If a book is hard going, it ought to be good. If it posits a complex moral situation, it ought to be even better (Anthony Burgess). 3. To place firmly in position.
Etymology: [From Latin positus, past participle of pnere, to place. See position.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Shouldn't you ping him when you talk about him?
Gee, I dunno about that.
Seems to me, (and the rest of the croquettes are nodding sagely in their wisdom and great knowledge about such thongs) , that the newest coquette would more properly be preferred to as a "thingsthatmayjigger" ....
Use to really hate Pittsburgh cause of football but after the armband thing they did, showin' their solidarity with Cleveland for losing it's team several years ago, I say they're alright in my book.
Uh-Oh! Being part of a suburb of Baltimore, let me be the first to say ... It wasn't me! I didn't have anything to do with it!! ... Still don't, as a matter of fact.
However!! The memory of the Colts, leaving Baltimore, (Mayflower moving, by the way) sneaking off in a quiet snowfall of crushed hopes, ... is seared, seared in my memory!!!!
Wellllllll shoot!
You're just up the road a bit from me.
(Akron's only a little way north on Hwy41 from the Big Chicken, ya know!)
I was an anchor/reporter at a radio station on the Eastern shore that carried the colts when that happened. so I remember it also.
We used to go camping all the time when we had kids at home, although I think the adults had more fun than the kids-one winter night, we were sleeping in our little travel trailer in a park near Ruidosa when we were awakened by the noise of a large bear crawling into the back of our Suburban, grabbing an ice chest, crushing it, then sitting on the tailgate to eat the contents of it-a big package of Oreo cookies my daughter had left in it, even though she'd been warned to bring all food inside-next time, she listened...
Oh good.
For a moment, I was worried that it was Montgomery Wards, and not Sears.
Thanks for the confirmation.
That woman is sick-she should be locked up in a mental institution.
The only eating creatures I need worry about this weekend are skeeters!!!!!!!
Along with her "daddy" who claims she did no such thing.
Found bear tracks outside (around and between) the tents up in the Sierra's on a Cub Scout weekender once.....
Besides the whole thing made me pull my head out of my ars....and realize that there are more important things in life beside football and that it's really no more than a well orchestrated ballet with an unpredictable ending.
What Baltimore did to you guys wasn't very kind either.....sorry you seared yourself.
Well my salad is packed in the van, hubby has headed back to the party, I'm heading for the store and then the party.
You all have a great weekend and will FReep at you soon!!!!!!
Have a great time, Gabz!
Will do.
I'm looking forward to the band tonight....they're a regional group and I know most of the members, but have never had an opportunity to hear them play.
It is 73 and has been raining lightly off and on here, but appears to be clearing up-I hope it clears by late afternoon-my neighbor's two big grills are not under a cover-only under trees...
And actually, I like Sears. I mean, have you seen all the tools they have?
Oh I LOVE Ruidoso!
So do I, but I haven't been there since I divorced my ex-he was from that part of New Mexico and had relatives in Ruidoso and Roswell, so we used to visit several times a year. One of my favorite places in that general area is Bottomless Lakes-beautiful...
