Word For The Day, Friday, 9/3/04
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
POSIT: verb. (pa-zit) tr.v. pos·it·ed, pos·it·ing, pos·its
1. To assume the existence of; postulate. See Synonyms at presume. 2. To put forward, as for consideration or study; suggest: If a book is hard going, it ought to be good. If it posits a complex moral situation, it ought to be even better (Anthony Burgess). 3. To place firmly in position.
Etymology: [From Latin positus, past participle of pnere, to place. See position.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

America has done this kind of work before and there have always been doubters.
In 1946, 18 months after the fall of Berlin to allied forces, a journalist wrote in the New York Times, "Germany is a land in an acute stage of economic, political and moral crisis. [European] capitals are frightened. In every [military] headquarters, one meets alarmed officials doing their utmost to deal with the consequences of the occupation policy that they admit has failed." End quote. Maybe that same person's still around, writing editorials.
Somewhere, tonight, Howell Raines is flying into a rage. Careful, Mr. President. If you attack the New York Times, they may become less objective, fair and balanced in their coverage of you.
Yep -- my fellow volunteers and I scored passes from the delegations that were staying in our hotel, shut down early and hopped on the delegates' bus. I managed to quietly flip the middle finger to one protester along the way -- he was holding up a sign bitching about the RNC "exploiting" 9/11.
Earlier, I got to meet Zell briefly and got my pic taken with Newt Gingrich. But my compact flash card got corrupted (after all the wonderful pics I took in the Garden!) and I'm going to buy some software that should be able to recover much of them.
Great homework -- I thought of your friend as soon as I read the post! :)
A+, i heard that and it was hilarious.
While I completely support GWB in his stance regarding national defense, and I will be casting a vote for him. I realized my error of positing conservatism in his domestic plan. For the life of me I can not understand why the Democrats hate him so much, he posits their domestic agenda!
Mornin' all!
This has been a "relgion of peace(TM)" alert
fpr you, sweetie
