Word For The Day, Friday, 9/3/04
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
POSIT: verb. (pa-zit) tr.v. pos·it·ed, pos·it·ing, pos·its
1. To assume the existence of; postulate. See Synonyms at presume. 2. To put forward, as for consideration or study; suggest: If a book is hard going, it ought to be good. If it posits a complex moral situation, it ought to be even better (Anthony Burgess). 3. To place firmly in position.
Etymology: [From Latin positus, past participle of pnere, to place. See position.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
I'm trying to convince Jax she is supposed to be asleep - by ignoring her banging on the door..........
There will be no sleeping for her tomorrow night I know - there will be mucho tent to tent bouncing with all of her little friends....I just hope I can get some sleep tomorrow night.....and the tent to tent hopping doesn't include mine!!!
Asleep?
At a little girl sleepover?
You exepct them two to be asleep?|?|?|?|?|?|?
M'Lady - Them two ain't gonna be asleep 'till 9:00 ...
(9:00 AM that is ....)
The galactic wheels of justice can turn mighty slowly at times......
i told xshub that God was doing this to remind me of how i would be up at the crack of dawn when sleeping over my friend's house, bawling to go home. i was always an early riser and my best friend's family slept late, and i would lay there thinking about how i wanted to be home at my own house. so i would bawl and my family would come get me at the crack o dawn. i never bawled at night, it was always early AM. so here is my retribution. Moira had already called her mom, i guess she was missing her, at 6:20 am.
xshub told me, if that ever happens to me, you better bust your @$$ getting to the hosp to be with me, and not stopping off to hold a press conference, while tearing yourself away from the state fair photo ops!
My sincere sympathies to you for your early rising little guest-just one of the ways God humbles us, isn't it?
One of my daughter's friends used to call her mom at 5:30-6:00 whenever she would sleep over at our house-then after we'd all had breakfast, she'd call her back and tell her not to come pick her up this early after all, but by then everyone was wide awake, and the kids were bouncing off the walls.
I also just remembered that when I used to sleep over at one friend's house we would wait until her parents and siblings were asleep, then we would sneak forbidden books from her parents' bookcase ("Tropic of Cancer" and "Peyton Place" come to mind) and read them by flashlight in the otherwise dark bedroom. I don't think my youngun ever did that though...
You can't be too careful.
I've heard that some books these days are very naughty.
these two are much more interested in DOGS than any sort of naughty bits. they are obsessed at age 10 with dogs and horses.
I think your theory is pretty close, but to further refine it..... I suspect that, upon receiving the bedroom invite, "little Willie" decided to get the hell outta town, and probably damaged the heart on his way out.
If there weren't already an "undead thread" where posters are aiming at the rarified atmosphere of 65535 posts, this would have been a good starting point.
I alone could produce page after page of humorous text from this beginning.
I never had a sleep over.
Don't you have one planned for this weekend?
I meant when I was a kid.
We're camping out this weekend, yes.
I assure you I will NOT be participating in any tent-to-tent bouncing.
I was talking about the mob of 6 & 7 year olds that will be present.
sleepover guest has departed. her mom said this was a really big deal for Moira to have been able to do that. Their dad left this summer. I was worried that something like that might have happened, but she finally confided in me. i feel so badly for her, moira's mom.
there isn't enough $$$ in the world to induce me to sleep in a tent! i am not the camping sort. thankfully, neither is xshub!
How sad.
