Word For The Day, Friday, 9/3/04
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
POSIT: verb. (pa-zit) tr.v. pos·it·ed, pos·it·ing, pos·its
1. To assume the existence of; postulate. See Synonyms at presume. 2. To put forward, as for consideration or study; suggest: If a book is hard going, it ought to be good. If it posits a complex moral situation, it ought to be even better (Anthony Burgess). 3. To place firmly in position.
Etymology: [From Latin positus, past participle of pnere, to place. See position.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
That sounds like so much fun! No band for our party, but really good fireworks. Time to go put asparagus on to steam and potato to bake-back later...
So, Xsex has decided her favorite Dick comes in right behind Bush in the great sexcapde contest for publick flavors, eh?
I'm looking forward to it.
I've got a huge mess of cabbage salad to make in the morning for her.
She was really bummed out this afternoon when I talked with her....her best friend from PA, who was pretty much the impetus for this party, informed her that she and her husband are splitting up and he is being a real jerk and so none of the people from PA (something like 40 were expected) are coming.
I'm glad she looped. It makes for an easy transition most of the time. There is a big difference between kinder and first grade though and sometimes they have a hard time separating the 2 different sets of expectations when they have the same teacher. That's just what I've been told by teachers that have looped up. Most of them end up going back to their previous grade when the spot opens back up. Our school is growing really fast. We are up to 6 kindergarten classes, from 4 two years ago. That increases my chances of getting a call to sub. I like doing it, but not as often as they'd like me to do it.
This teacher taught 1st grade for 4 years before going to kindergarten for 14 years.
She told me today that she wasn't real keen on the idea at first when the slot openned and they wanted her for it, but is now really looking forward to it.
I'm not worried about her giving me a "screen" - her husband and mine are drinking buddies and she knows it!!!! she also knows that other than my husband, her husband is one of my favorite trivia playing partners!!!!
What do you mean by a screen?
Telling me something just because she thinks it's what I want to hear.
Down here, we call that bs-ing someone. ;)
xsteen is totally disgusted that Foxnews, and in fact all the news channels, can talk about nothing but the hurricane! of course, Mr. O is off on Fridays, but we thought at least we would see one of the Johns tonight. Chrissy fatpantload looked positively DEPRESSED, but it could be fatigue. i am sure he partied pretty dang hearty. xshub kept saying look at the guy, he looks devastated, like his best friend died, as he was talking about the bush bounce.
The FPL moniker is catching on. Does xshub know what he's started?
xsbrownie had her day at school to see the new classroom this past week. her last years teachers, her tutor from this summer and her upcoming teachers all "made" over her in a huge way. it makes the kids feel so good and really helps them to look forward to going back, to be so warmly welcomed.
Tonight he was sure that Bubba's chest pains are all a front, a la Sanford and Son, so that he could get into a hospital and film a porn flick with hot nurses...
also, this occurred to me as we watched the shrill one tend to her artery-clogged lovemate, if Bubbaloon's ticker is all corroded, how the hell is fat ted not rotting in the ground by now????
I was trying to be polite :)
I agree it does help in making them feel welcomed........but it bothered me a few times when other children were not given the same kind of reception.
In the flat manner of internet communication it's hard to explain how uncomfortable I get when I see her being singled out the way she was today. Yes, to me and coolbreeze she is special, but I'm not so sure it's such a good idea for her to be getting such ideas from teachers and other school staff. It's bad enough that I have to practically beg our friends to not go so over board o their effusive praise of her...........I don't need her getting it in school as well.
His ticker ha been preserved from the inside (i.e....pickled)
Have a happy weekend everyone!
hi slippy! you too!
I just had to pry a huge wad of Bubbalicious watermelon bubblegum, still in the wrapper, out of xs2pup's mouth. he found it on the floor in xsboy's room and thought he struck gold, til i reached down his throat and pried it out!
You too!!!!!!!!!!
