I am watching the coverage too. Really wish we knew if ksen stayed there or bugged out!

Forgive me, but I am watching the coverage, and I am feeling a little bit insensitive about the people that left very expensive boats there tied to docks. I just saw a Grand Banks tied to a dock that is worth $250,000. I don't see how people could leave a boat like that in the water tied to a dock. They had plenty of time, I'd think, to get it out of there. That dock is going to break that boat up before it breaks loose and runs into whatever it hits.

If I were the insurance company, I'd say "so, just how hard did you try to get it out of there? Or did you just leave it there knowing we'd cover it?"

It's insensitive, because perhaps they had other things to protect.... But it hurts to see really nice boats that will be firewood by tomorrow. I can see why looting happens... I'd take it.

It's the boat, not the dock, that I was quoting the value of.... thank you, my loving husband, for pointing out to me my sloppy sentence. ;~D

Hi Ruthy, all.

It's blowing 40 kts. at Fowey Light, out on the edge of the Gulf Stream, about my latitude. I think the trees and landscapr are mitigating it a little for us, seems like it's about 30-35 here, which, as you say, happens with a strong cold front occasionally in winter.

Looks OK for us, though.

Morning All - been up since early thirty, time to do some store type stuff. Bank, Petsmart and library, hmmm. books. Gypsy had some quality time with a big soup bone.

Corin - that is great news, they bloom on their schedule, not ours-not the plant books. We got a new volunteer bout six inches tall now, in amongst the basil plants.

G'nad - that is so true; the enemy is cunning, cruel and devious and can be stopped only one way. How anyone can see a "nuance" in this latest atrocity? Only time will tell.

Overtaxed - got your checklist? coffee? map? Enjoy the day exploring the neighborhoods.

Good News from the hobbits of the far southern lands. Glad you've dodged this one.

Sam - any luck with leather rejuvenation?

Yeah, me too.
40kts steady on the ocean is actually stronger than even winter weather, where 30 is about tops.

However, it looks pretty good.

I can't find the leather, so, once this passes, will go buy a couple more. I think if you never let them get wet, they last a long time, is that right? Jeanne suggested shrink wrapping the thing with the food saver.

Glad you're ok, Sam. Hope we hear from ksen soon. I can't imagine what it's like to sit through a hurricane.

There are benefits to building instruments mostly out of large hunks of metal...

Thanks Jen.

Yes, I hope ksen is OK, I imagine they'll be fine, but looks like they will face hurricane force winds pretty soon.

Hurricanes are exciting to sit through, as well as scary and exhausting. Usually you are too busy to be completely scared, though.

It was a great crowd. Kinda makes me want to go to a homeschool convention and just hang out.

Oh, you meant Entmoot? ;-) Seriously, it surprised me how many homeschoolers there were there (or in Jen and my case, ex-homeschoolers, or graduates anyway). Very cool!

I'm looking forward to it.

Well, I'm back. I got an AWESOME guitar / banjo stand for the amount I had to spend. It's got a spring thingie that actually grabs your instrument as you set it down - the weight of the instrument pulls the little holders shut. It was pricey, but I'm using my overtime from last week and it's a purchase I've put off for far too long. Luckily the thing is darned near bulletproof...should last me awhile. And my brothers were impressed with it's high-tech geeky appeal...

Also got two pairs of pants, so I now have a few pairs that aren't baggy. That's always nice. Also nice trying on 10s from various makers and having pretty much everything fit, instead of just the sized extra large ones. Yes, I'm vain. *preen*

Oh, and I FINALLY was at Wal-Mart when the folks selling the "Support Our Troops" magnets were there! I got one for my car, one for my brother's, and a flag magnet, too. Van-sama is all tricked out! Except that I still wanna get a Christian fish symbol like I had on the old car, and a Bush '04 sticker or magnet. I'd better hurry, no?

Heh, you're right! It was cool to be around so many homeschool tpyes. Anyway, homeschooling isn't something you stop being, I've found. I still think of myself as "homeschooled", and I'm in grad school.

Yeah, I do too...but some people look at ya funny if you call yourself "homeschooled" when you're 27. ;-)

*sigh* Speaking of schooling, I'm NOW seeing all my mistakes in that long post. Oops.

But it's the weekend. I'm alowed to be imperfect, right?

My adventuring will have to be Monday. I'm hoping the weather holds. If it does...I'm going hiking, with or without company.

It was cool to be around so many homeschool [types].

....And then there are the others of our village.... We don't bother them.... and so far, they don't bother us!
