Sorry for the confusion about the poll numbers. You're right...he's leading Kerry by ELEVEN points (I love typing that!). I think he moved HIS OWN number up 9 points. That's what I was referring to.

And, don't forget, this poll was taken 8/31 thru today, 1/2 those polled were BEFORE Zell, BigTime and Dubya. What a party of stars we have!

Thanks for the clarification, I know there are a couple of other polls that have GWB at single digit advantige, 4 or 5.

Trying not to get too excited but you're right about the timing that poll was released. A 20 lead when they poll after GWB's speech? :-)

Terry Holt, one of the mucky mucks in the upper eshelon of the campaign spoke to the Iowa Delegation one morning this week. His topic was polling.

One comment I vividly remember is that ANY incumbant should expect to receive 2/3 as much bounce from his Convention as compared to the bounce the challenger gets from their own convention. Then he reminded us that Kerry got 0% bounce,, and said 2/3 if 0,,, is still 0.

I suspected at the time that he was trying to down play our expectations for GWB, and I'm sure he'd seen some of the preliminary polling. But I still find it an interesting statistic. If he sited the genius who devised this formula, I've forgotten the name. Maybe he mentioned a name, maybe he didn't.

I just thought it was an interesting piece of trivia. And one we might have to use before this is all over.

Mmmmmm, I'm surprized you remember any of that. I would have been swooning at Terry Holt the entire time and nothing he said would have stuck. He's a hottie. :-)

Found this on CNN BlogLand regarding Zell's speech:

The vast majority of e-mail received here in CNN Blogland -- and we got more than 100 e-mails between midnight and noon -- was about Zell Miller, and writers were as passionate in their opinions as Sen. Miller was in his:

Pro-Zell:

"Thank God some people like Zell Miller are still in USA" (David, The Netherlands)

"Zell Miller hit the nail right on the head" (Catherine, Memphis, Tennessee)

"Probably most of America had no idea what language Zell Miller was speaking. It was called TRUTH" (Anne, Johnson City, Tennessee)

"There's the saying 'If the shoe fits, wear it.' Cheney and Miller both put a shoe on Kerry" (Cliff, Pensacola, Florida).

Anti-Zell:

"Ugly vitriol" (Andrea, Virginia City, Nevada)

"Completely unhinged" (D, Marietta, Georgia)

"The negativity, anger and hatred on display by Zell Miller and Dick Cheney were a huge turn-off" (Shawn, cyberspace)

"[Zell], you bring shame on yourself" (Jeff, Carbondale, Illinois).

There were also these, received one after the other Wednesday night:

Mary Ann from cyberspace: "This has been the most inspiring, positive and truthful convention I have ever watched."

Jenna from Arlington, Virginia: "When are you going to comment on the vicious, negative Republican convention?" [They did dearie, allllllll the way through the dern thing.] Link
