Looks like John Edwards is trying to sell Dickie and Sue Todd a get-rich-scheme, where all they have to do is withdraw their life savings, give it to him in cash (in a plain envelope, please), and - trust me on this! - they'll see a 300 percent return, honest!

NY Sightings from PageSix: ANDY Rooney grumpily instructing a bartender at Monday night's New York Times soiree at Lincoln Center how to make a double Jack Daniels on the rocks, telling him at one point, "No! No! pour more!" [anyone surprised Andy's a lush?] . . . IOWA Democratic Gov. Tom Vilsack — here to rebut the GOP speeches — sharing a chopped liver sandwich with his wife at the Stage Deli . . .

Also from PageSix:

After his address Monday night, Giuliani hosted a private cigar party at the Grand Havana Room, where he relaxed with a Montecristo and a glass of premium scotch. He joked to our spy that if he had downed the scotch before his speech, "I really would have told the country what I think of John Kerry."

A bit of fashion news from the convention:

OSCAR de la Renta took his inspiration for the turquoise outfit he de signed for Laura Bush from the first lady's own eyes. "She has the most extraordinary eyes," the designer told PAGE SIX's Lisa Marsh. "I have never seen blue eyes like hers — very in tense — like sapphires." So intense, he said, he suspected they couldn't possibly be the real thing. "So I said, Mrs. Bush, I want to ask you a very in discreet ques tion: 'do you wear contact lenses?' She doesn't."

From the "in your dreams" department:

DOLLAR signs were flashing in Michael Moore's eyes as boos rained down on the portly provocateur during Sen. John McCain's address to the Republican National Convention. "I just made another $20 million," Moore told his seatmate, conservative radio commentator Rabbi Shmuley Boteach ...

Oh my, that zaftig young woman being arrested certainly doesn't have a lot going for her, does she? The ensemble, right down to her boots and socks, just screams, "I'm clueless! About everything!"

Speaking of clueless (and perhaps what you were talking about yesterday):

Sen. John Kerry is angry at the way his campaign has botched the attacks from the Swift boat veterans and has ordered a staff shakeup that will put former Clinton aides in top positions. "The candidate is furious," a longtime senior Kerry adviser told the Daily News. "He knows the campaign was wrong. He wanted to go after the Swift boat attacks, but his top aides said no."

Campaign sources stressed that no one is losing a job at this point, but instead "proven winners" [LOL] like former Clinton aides Joe Lockhart and Joel Johnson are being brought in to try to regain momentum for Team Kerry. ...

Democratic insiders have been saying for weeks that communications director Stephanie Cutter and media consultant and strategist Bob Shrum are two top aides who need to be replaced. But a second Democratic source noted, "The question is, Is it too late? Has too much blood spilled?" [If so, grab a Purple Heart and soldier on, lad] .... full story

IOWA Democratic Gov. Tom Vilsack — here to rebut the GOP speeches...

LOL! From where---the deli?! I was just wondering this morning where the infamous "war room" had retreated to...where's Hillary? I don't believe I've seen even ONE high-level Dem operative on the after-convention shows the last two nights. (Excluding reporters, of course.)

[anyone surprised Andy's a lush?] . . .

Nope.

Laura does have beautiful eyes. Oh to have Oscar de la Renta stare into your eyes and tell you they're like sapphires.

Mikey suffers from 'magical thinking' just like Kerry.

Kerry's magical thinking has blamed his campaign once again for his blunders. It's all their fault the SBVT ads had a chance to take control, he wanted to attack them head on but they held him back.

He is unable to see that blaming his campaign for making him stay quiet makes him look weak(er).

Speaking of Joe Lockhart, reminds me of Ari Fleisher. I'm convinced Bush's numbers started going south the day Ari left the WH. The new guy (I can't even remember his name) seems afraid of the press corps and has damaged Bush's image...bless his heart.

Your tag line reminded me of a stupid segment I saw on this morning's GMA.

That Cuomo-boy-turned-reporter proclaimed with a straight face that a doctor at a NYC psychiatric hospital told him they were having to turn people away during the GOP convention. So much stress and reminders of terror attacks.

You just can't make up stuff funnier than panicked liberals.

...where's Hillary?

I guess there is no misinformation coming out of the Republican convention.

We know that Kerry's team wasn't happy the DNC installed hilly in the post but were told, too bad. Teresa must of called Blubba and or hilly personally to tell the DNC to muzzle hilly. Especially after those poll ratings of who is the most despised democrat.

I think Michael Moore realizes the party's over, but he's like a kid who's just gotten the snot beaten out of him, looks up from the dirt with his the eye not yet swollen shut and sniffles to the attackers' backs as they stride off in triumph, "Oh yeah? Well, you're a bunch of poopypants! And you didn't hurt me!"

Michael Moore is eating up the abuse he's been getting at the Republican National Convention. The "Fahrenheit 9/11" director is still blowing kisses to Arizona Sen. John McCain, who scorned the anti-Bush crusader as "a disingenuous filmmaker" during his speech Monday night.

"Thank you, John McCain," said Moore, who is covering the convention for USA Today. "The film's doing $120 million right now. When McCain mentions it, I have a chance to do $150 million. I felt bad that McCain got set up by the Bush people to comment on a film he hasn't seen," Moore told us...

Republicans jeered at Moore when they spotted him at the Garden. "It's about time that [Moore] was exposed as a fraud," New York delegate and cosmetics queen Georgette Mosbacher told us. "He's too stupid to know he's been insulted." full story

I hope Vilsack had lots of onions on that liver sandwich - everyone will really want to listen to him then (from a distance, of course).

I hope Putin becomes more active in helping the big picture on terrorism.

That's the plan. If not actively "helping", then not opposing us when we invade Iran, or whatever other hapless country over there.

Scott McClellan - the less than genius son of Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn, State of Texas Comptroller who magically "found" millions of $$$ in our treasury during the 2000 election campaign.

A payback appointment for Scotty.

What John McCain did was absolute perfection. I can't count how many times Chris Matthews has said "They've made Michael Moore the face of the Democratic Party!".

I watched some of Joe Scarborough's coverage, too. There was one point where they put up a l-o-o-o-ng cut to Kerry on his windsurfing board (no wind, wobbling in the water). The entire panel was laughing---no, guffawing! They made "no wind in the sails" jokes. "Who picked out that outfit" jokes. "Who told him windsurfing is a good image...if that's not Lake Michigan, it's not a smart strategy!". It was a bee-yoo-tee-ful think to see.

If only they'd played "Wind Beneath my Wings" while showing the video of Kerry bobbing on the water!

Did you love my guy Arnie last night or what. He was awesome; I did not know that he is a Republican because of Richard Nixon...

Surprised to see Maria there last night. The buzz was that Arnie did not accompany her to Boston (they had a Kennedy night and the whole clan was there) so she was not going to accompany him to NYC. Guess she knows where the fun really is, lol...

da la Renta has been "dressing" Laura a lot lately and she continues to look lovely.

I read that Bob Shrum has written the speech Kerry will give today; if it bombs, he will be history for sure. I can't imagine why anyone would hire him in the first place-his main successes have been on Larry King talking nasty about Repubs. and he also had a big hand in the Wellman Memorial.

Thanks for the great post. If you run into the twins, give them an egg dish and a string of pearls...they deserve honorary Guild membership for their catty remark about the hamster, lol. And it was delivered by Bar, the quiet one!

When Jenna delivered the line about "some angry guy named Carl called me", I cracked up. While he probably did not have nerve enough to call Jenna directly, I will bet he went ballistic when Jenna stuck out her tongue at the press corps (impulsively and without malice, hee hee). And to all who think they bombed, I can only say that Karen Hughes was sticking to them like glue and I bet every word they uttered had been approved and lauded. I also think that internals show W definitely pulling away which is why they were added as speakers at sorta the last minute. Not a real risk at all. JMO...

Just got off the phone with HLL. She sounds terrible, she has lost her voice. She was only able to squeek out a few words before her voice quit completely.

If the delegate guy who's been bugging her is reading this,,, run for your life bub, she's out for your blood.
