37 here, and I came from a loooooong line of Marines (I broke tradition and joined the Navy). I've heard all I ever needed to about the Hanois, Tokyo Rose, Lord Haw-Haw, Dirty Girtie from Bizerte,Ramsay Clark, etc, etc, ad infinitum, ad naseum.
I can tell you everything I ever heard about the fights on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Chosin Resevoir, Khe Sahn, etc. I not have studied history, I was RAISED with history -- got it direct from the people who LIVED it.
What I object to is this "your elders know better and are always right" crap, which I would be inclined to believe if we were talking about the WWII generation (with exceptions). But when it comes from the "tune in, drop out" set, I'm overcome with fits of laughing.
Contrary to popular belief, some of us "young whippersnappers" are actually far more intelligent than you are, which is surprising, considering where our genes came from.
Whoops! That was "I HAVE studied history"....
