Interesting; Thanks for that.

Any thoughts on the notion that the Kennedy administration dropped its military support for the Bay of Pigs invasion due to the failure of an assassination attempt on Castro?

Curious.

From what I've read, the State Department was behind the decision to withdraw support for the invasion, with Dean Rusk playing a key role in rejecting the original invasion plan and cancelling the air strikes, and the decision was motivated by political concerns rather than any failed assassination attempt. On this subject I'd recommend Grayston L. Lynch, Decision for Disaster: Betrayal at the Bay of Pigs. For additional background on the political conflict between the Kennedy cabinet and the military/CIA prior to the Bay of of Pigs and how this factored into the JFK administration's military decisions, see the first chapter of H.R. McMaster, Dereliction of Duty: Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies That Led to Vietnam.
