Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Ever thought about making saurkraut? Oh yes. But I want to wait until I can get a proper fermenting crock... and they're vey expensive. Big'ol won't touch the stuff (he was stationed in Germany for a while) so I'll be making small batches just for me.

We have a little toaster oven that I bet would bake cupcakes!
Our oven doesn't work either.... at least the bake doesn't work well, never seen it get above 200 degrees. The broil works real well, so when we've had to make it work, we just alternate the broil and bake until whatever it is gets sortof done.

I was stationed in Germany for awhile, too...and fresh sauerkraut is one of the main things I miss! Used to be a dinky little place we'd go that you had to walk up a hill by the ruins of a little castle to get to...they made their own brats and kraut...makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Ooohhh, do I EVER miss the food there!

That's something I've always wanted to try, but I don't have an acceptable crock either.
Have to put that on my "Things to do after Steve graduates." list!

I had a toaster oven that did make brownies and cupcakes... it broke too (it was very old).
I bought another one and it didn't do so good...burned the top, inside still runny. But I think it's just the particular type. I'm returning it and looking around for a better one.

He's big on German beer (and we have the stein collection to prove it). But when it comes to anything sour (like pickles or kraut) he has whole-body
BLECH shudders.*
*Exactly my response to beer. LOL! (Plz don't flame me for that, folks.)

and don't have to include additional gubmit programs like "Do Your Parents Always Buckle Your Seatbelt?"
lol...aw man! I was really looking forward to that one! :-)
The three hours is a total daily time...not consecutive. Jess plans on doing 6 20-minute sessions, with short breaks in between. Three in the morning, three in the afternoon, with me doing three 20-minute sessions in the evening.

Has anybody seen my desk?

That sounds good. And remember...a lesson can be in the kitchen, out in the yard under a tree, even driving in the car!
I've even taught Matthew sitting in the hallway, because the lighting is particularly good!

I've never learned to like beer, either...My Dad is just getting back into brewing (he did that years ago, but stopped, I think due to time constraints), and I'll probably taste some, but I have yet to finish a bottle or pint of beer. Hard cider and wine are different.

If I had the fridge space, I'd ask for your recipe...but I don't think I could do 'em! But I do love good pickles. Only trouble is...so does Bilbo. And every time I get a jar of GOOD pickles, usually he ends up visiting and clears me out. *sigh* I should start charging him an entry fee, since he always raids my cabinets and fridge when he visits...
