Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Where do all our Floridian HHD's live? Ruthy and Sam are in Miami, LCS is in Ocala which is NW of Orlando, and I am in Palm Bay which is 30 miles or so south of Cape Canaveral.
Frances is scheduled to make landfall where I live. But the storm is so big that everyone will get some of it.

Oooh, yep, I've dealt with both scenarios!
But this year is sooooo much easier than last year. Last year Blaster came out about two weeks before the year began, NO students had updated or had antivirus software, and at the time, the residence halls weren't completely isolated from our side of the network or from other buildings on campus. It was a nightmare of the grandest kind. This year, most of 'em have learned, AND we're telling them we won't work on their systems if they don't have antivirus software of some sort. If they do and just got nailed before they had a chance to update, we can help...otherwise, have a nice day.
Of course, that just addresses the virus problems and not everything else...but it's a big part of it!

I'm sending my family over to the Tampa/Clearwater area probably tomorrow. My father-in-law has this idea that he wants to stay so I'll stay with him to make sure he doesn't have a heart attack or something.

Steve puts my cup of coffee on my bedside table every morning...that's enough to wake me up. Then I sit on the side of the bed with my eyes closed drinking it for a while.
MUCH nicer than a buzzer!

Half of me is actually jealous.... I would really like to see it someday.

There are 'gentle' alarms, that beep softly at the start and then get louder. I saw one that 'gently' brightens the room, too.

I mostly just resent any alarms. I wake up early by nature. I am always up by 6, but to get up and get my head on straight for this job I need 5:30 in order to have time to freep and sip.

My wife is going to try and talk her dad into leaving to and then I'll go with them, but he wouldn't be a good father-in-law if he weren't stubborn. ;^)

I'm having a "I dislike having to work" day.
Some of that comes from being really sleepy- my fault for staying up waaaaaay past my pathetic bedtime. Had to watch Aaaaahnold.

Will the house be boarded up? Are you doing all that prep work and such?
