The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I guess one of the biggest thing that bothers me is that the people I had the most in common with (interests and beliefs and such) WERE the "redneck" types. ;-) But if I tried to hang out with 'em, I got that "you wouldn't understand, you're a Yankee" line and the cold shoulder.

That hurts. And I guess I've carried a chip on the shoulder ever since.

I think just out of spite from the other thread, I'll take Rosie's side in this.... or should I hold out for taking the opposing side the next time you need ~real~ backup in the RF?

~smiles wickedly~

Well, if you were treated like that they were just stoopid. That's wrong coming from anywhere.

What did I do? Did I "insult" you on the other thread? Or are you just hungry for more popcorn?

Yes, but they were only born there until they found a better place in Texas...then they were REborn!

"You go to hell. I'm going to Texas." Davy Crockett, to the Tennessee Congress.

Sheesh! I was just exhibiting a little neighborly Texan joshing!! Didn't mean to start up the next Rising of the South, or West, or Northwest, or what have you.

My bottom line is just what I said in my first post on the subject. People are usually proud of where they're from...or at least fond of it. That's not a bad thing.

It's when you can't be happy with where you're from without insulting the places other people love - other people's homes - that it bothers me. Or when people act like they belong to an exclusive club and won't even explain things to people who weren't born part of it, even those of us who are perfectly open and friendly. And yes, most of it here is friendly joshing...but even here I think there are occasionally barbs behind it all.

I shouldn't be sensitive. But I am.

I'll shut up now. Just havin' a bad day, I guess. And God done smote me for posting the first post on the subject...I had started the sink running to do dishes, but got so wrapped up in what I was saying that I forgot about it, and now I have a total mess on my hands. Just waiting for the dripping-into-the-basement to stop before I go down there to mop. Already did as much as I could upstairs.

I've traveled to enough parts of the states to know that the entire country is one Glorious creation that God gifted to us. And even I get weary of fellow Texans claiming their ain't nothing good outside it...I get it from my hubby all time. In fact, I have never really felt a part of Texas, although I have never lived anywhere else. But I know what you mean. I get a little brash about my home state, but I mean it in good fun. Ive met really nice New Yorkers who were far more friendly and sociable than some Dallasite relatives I have.

Drinking moderate amounts of red wine helps cholesterol, doesn't it?

"Ive moderated my glasses of wine before"

Is that when your glasses of wine are debating and you periodically remind them to take turns and let the other glass finish first?
