I think it is a good sign that the Fort Meyers cam still has power.

Well, technically they're prolly over. NBC is showing the taped version at 8 EST. So you may have it on delay.

There's a thread around here somewhere.

See y'all later.

Yeah, I'm pretty out of it as far as "Dune" goes. I still have to catch up on "God Emperor", "Heretics", and "Chapterhouse" in the original series, too.

I kept trying the "Dune" sequels, but God Emperor of Dune really made me feel like I was too sane. The prequels are quite sane but don't approach the sheer quality of "Dune". That book is one of the best in SF, magic shrooms or not.

Melbourne Beach webcam.

I was impressed with how the homes there all had storm shutters like they were prepared for anything.... the Castle didn't though, did it? - Wonder if it's rented this week. Anyone remember the phone number? :~D

(I'd repost "They're coming to take me away, Ha ha" but it seems a little soon. Let's just take it as read?)

If there is a storm surge of many feet..... would that also be on the Atlantic side? - Or was that ahead of the storm on the Gulf Side?

I guess in the "Dune" series there's an inverse proportion between saneness and quality :)

I think the charm of the first book is the originality of the premise. There are just some really cool ideas there. The style and plot aren't as compelling, though, IMO, so for me once the novelty of the original concept wears off the series loses momentum quickly. I do want to finish it, though.

Yes, if you just quote the chorus of that song the rest may be safely assumed :)

Seems to me that if the storm comes from the land side, it would push the wateraway from the beach.

No, the first "Dune" is totally different in quality from the sequels. I love the first one but I don't like the sequels. And I personally like the style. It's got a pseudo-Biblical feel, which is right for an epic....

Darn it, why didn't I steal Dad's Jerry Pournelle books? I need to do some military SF research!

The pseudo-Biblical aspect of the style is fine by me. I was thinking more of things like pacing. The action's a little slow for me.

What military SF research do you need to do?
