I've mentioned that I don't usually do historical novels, so I was partly just curious. First attempt I only made it a few chapters in before getting distracted by something else, though the beauty of the writing got a hold of me just the same. I had to make another attempt.
Now I know I've GOT to find a nice hardback edition. It's even longer than the LOTR trilogy and much slower reading, but I WILL re-read it over and over.
