The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Still here! :) Glad you and SIL like the villain ideas! For some reason I have an easier time coming up with ideas for villains than heroes--was like that when I used to Dungeon Master, too. BTW that book I was just summarizing says the hard part about writing comics is coming up with good villains, because the heroes become constant after a few issues, so making the villains interesting is the key to making new stories stand out.

It should be at Barnes & Noble and also Amazon.com (Dennis O'Neil, The DC Comics Guide to Writing Comics; there's also some useful stuff here: Panel One: Comic Book Scripts by Top Writers). I got mine from the library 'cause I'm a cheapskate like J. Jonah Jameson :) You'll get the most out of O'Neil's book if you've read some comics which illustrate the principles involved, so you might want to also pick up some reprints of one of the better-written titles like Stan Lee's Spider-Man run, Chris Claremont's X-Men, Frank Miller's Batman, Marv Wolfman's Teen Titans, Alan Moore's Watchmen, or Neil Gaiman's Sandman--most of these will also be at Barnes & Noble.

And yeah, feel free to pick my brain for villains--I love plotting deviousness, bwahahaha! :)

Hiya FRiend!

Been a bit of a stressful week, but I'm muddling through. After three days of not doing ANYTHING (well, not doing anything or just doing stuff for the jedis sake, like fixin' them lunch), I decided to get up and do something. I got all the laundry done, the house all scrubbed, and a great deal of my homeschool stuff organized for next year! I even grilled chicken (well, I took the initiative to get the chicken out and defrosted...Steve grilled it...he's better at that than I am!)

So I've been working on this for 2 days and my chest (which has been hurting) quit hurting! Which may be because I'm only thinkin' about housework, or it may be because I've taken Zantac for the last couple of days! :-)

I did go bowling with my friend Celeste the other day...that was fun and really is what got me off my backside! She had me over to her house and the jedis played with her kids...we watched Gods and Generals. She loves it, but, Lord forgive me...I thought it was mind-numbingly boring.

I didn't mind, I enjoyed her company and just being out of my house. She's a good friend.

I'm lucky...I do have good friends...

Oh good!

It's a neat trick I learned while working in the hospital...like a heating pad that cools off...you don't want a heating pad on some patients that doesn't cool off.

We'd make hugh ones...take a bath towel, soak it, put it in a trash sack, nuke it till hot, put it in a draw sheet and put it on someone's back or leg to give them some relief.

Speaking of headaches the other day, I was just reading today that Johns Hopkins has done some research showing that eating Montmorency cherries (tart cherries) regularly helps prevent headaches. It looks like the same chemicals that help with the headaches also help with arthritis. Here's a little bit I found online on it:

Mountmorency Tart Cherry and Blueberry Juice

Tart cherries contain natural anti-inflammatory compounds. In laboratory tests, MSU research indicates that tart cherry compounds are at least 10 times more active than aspirin. The advantage of tart cherries is that they are more effective without any of the adverse side effects of aspirin.

"Tart cherries, specifically the Montmorency variety, contain an extremely significant quantity of melatonin, enough to produce positive results in the body."

In addition to the antioxidants, cherries are rich in two important flavonoids --isoqueritrin and queritrin. According to leading researchers, queritrin is one of the most potent anticancer agents ever discovered.

Montmorency Tart Cherry Juice and Arthritis Pain Relief

According to ongoing research, daily consumption of Montmorency Tart Cherry Concentrate reduces the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. To date no other fruit or vegetable has the pain relieving properties of Montmorency Cherries. According to research at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan the presence of three powerful anthocyanins in Montmorency Cherries prevent inflammation. Twenty cherries provide 25 milligrams of anthocyanins which help to shut down the enzymes that cause tissue inflammation related to arthritis and other inflammatory illnesses.

They're pretty easy to get around here (where there's a big cherry-picking industry: Door County Cherries). I'm not sure if it's the same by you, but if not here's some links to suppliers of that type:

I prefer the blueberries myself, too :) I'm about half done with the 10 pounds I ordered that came in a couple weeks ago. They're so good every time I take a handful I inevitably find myself going back for seconds :) The cherries just came into bloom this week as well, so right now the fridge is packed with blueberries and cherries!
