Maybe I can start a trend: potted kudzu.

Heh...no thanks.

I'm lookin' fer some ground cover tho. I'd like to have something that will keep the weeks down, but allow the lilies and the cannas to come up. Or do I just need to keep letting them spread?

Got the grasses planted today. And the cannas and a few other things fed. Rain caught me before I'd finished mulching in tho.

After dinner Nana and I tied the maters further up. One of the vines had gotten so heavy it knocked the stake over. I had to pound it further into the ground. Gonna have to stake the peppers too.

OT: "Potted Kudzu" that would be, ah, 'interesting' to say the least. You plan of filling the car with native plant materials and moving them to KS?

Corin, the daylilies will generally shade out the competition, it's always a balancing act though, thick enough to shade the ground but not so thick they start to stifle each other. When they get too dense or crowded, the shorter stalks don't seem to get enough sunlight to bloom properly and you get buds or blossoms but not many.
We need to do some 'series' splitting and moving this fall (we thinks), we'll probably double the area covered now. We also split and moved some into the back yard this spring and they all bloomed well.

There's a few sunflowers, volunteers from the bird feeding efforts. They grow some massive heads, bout a foot in diameter. Needless to say the birds and OT's special furred friends really enjoy them.

I took a couple of bamboo poles and set them in among the joe pye weed we transplanted along the back fence. Used some jute string, tying into screws in the fence and making a two string 'fence' to help hold the joe pye upright.

Congrats on the maters. We've lost a couple to the birds already, but have hopes for a real BLT before too much longer.
