Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's a Hewlett Packard S20 Film Scanner... It just does 35mm strips, or mounted 35mm slides.

Our church is very much up on the cultural issues of the day. On Father's Day the pastor lead into his sermon with a clip of Michael Reagan talking about his dad's gift of faith to him.

See? I miss that. Personally, I think that churches should mix in the current social/cultural issues so folks can see how your spiritual life cannot be isolated to just Sundays.

It gives great perspective on how spiritual battles are taking place all around us.

Our youth pastor is particularly good at doing that. The youth ministry is very relevant to teenagers.

"Fedora--I don't think we've met! I haven't been around much for over a year, you can see me in the first threads!"

I've seen you around but I don't know if we've been formally introduced. Nice to "meet" you! :)

I really enjoyed the Frank Peretti Darkness series. It really changed the way I look at spiritual battles! Not to mention, they were VEY good reads!

I've got those, but I haven't read them. So much to read, so little time...

I see what you both mean. See, when I was organizing this rally, I was told by the church President that I wasn't allowed to use the church's name for any of the promotion of the event, as the rule of "marriage is one man-one woman" isn't part of our "official" church doctrine.

What he didn't know, is that Pastor had asked me about 3 weeks prior to that conversation if I wanted to be on the committe that reviews the church covenant and by-laws. they're reviewed every 5 years, and well, 5 years ago, we didn't have many of the social issues that we have today.

Perhaps this is another opportunity for me to bring about change? Only He knows.

Maybe you should ask him if he thinks The Bible should be part of the "official" church doctrine...;-)

They're very quick reads, Corin. Fast-paced and pretty large font (at least in my copies).

Let me know you've read them and tell me what you think. :-)

lol...it's not so much that they don't believe Biblical truths...I think it's more that they simply don't care how these things relate to contemporary society. They WANT to be sheltered.

Kind of like...well...Hobbits.

(*ducks*)

A majority of the congregation just want their nice, little, unassuming, non-threatening church that they can go to every Sunday, and for the occasional Ham & Bean supper and/or May Breakfast, and not have to worry about all those things happening "outside the borders".

The Sunday Potluck Social Club Syndrome. :-)

I can see the attractiveness of that in a worldly sense, but it just won't satisfy spiritually!

Fitting that I'm currently reading "Why You Can't Stay Silent" by Tom Minnery.

To give you an idea how reluctant the congregation majority is to change:

One Sunday after service, and before Coffee Hour, I took off into the fellowship room, and re-arranged the chairs into a semi-circle, rather than having them all face front (which has been the norm for the last 764 years.

I wanted to encourage people to actually CONVERSE and SHARE IDEAS, rather than just listen to Pastor talk.

One by one, they came in, saw the semi-circle, and froze in place. They had NO IDEA how to react. They looked at the chairs, looked at me, the chairs, me...the chairs...then they proceeded to move the chairs back into "normal" formation.

I was almost driven out of town for heresy. lol

Yesterday ecurbh saw a flyer up on the store bulletin board... about "home-church"...

I said... ecurbh, not sure that is what your mom meant when she asked if we had found a church-home yet. ;~D
