The Hobbit Hole XII - Tree and flower and leaf and grass

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Thanks, Ruthy, that's very kind of you to remember.

I'm to the age where I wouldn't mind forgetting, though;-)

I know I've been on this thread for more than 2 years now, but I forget exactly how much longer...right after the first movie, I guess!

We've all formed a very nice friendship.

Ecurb and Hair were in the first 10 posts of the NZ Hobbit Hole, along with a couple of others (Samwise and BibChr, to name two regulars).

I came into the thread at post 12, Jan. 28th, 2002. That would be 2 and a half years, right? Exactly?

:-)

I think I at least made it in on the first page, if you go by 100 posts a page as I do.

Yep, exactly two and a half years! What an adventure it's been...

Yeah, I think I came aboard in February sometime.
Jeanne is still slightly bemused by the entire thing.

I just looked up bemused, it means "slightly bewildered," which is what I was after, I think.

(((SAM)))

I can't recall when I first appeared in Hobbit Land, but I'm certain that I'm working on around 2 years also.

The friends I've made in the Hole are truer and finer than many I have in RL!

I just read back and saw all the bad luck your friends have had.

Prayers especially for the teacher and her family, though.

Happy Birthday Sam!

A very fine friendship indeed, since we all ended up on a thread
about a goofy guy in New Zealand! Here's to another great year!

Did a lot of people get lost between threads? It has been unbelievably quiet these past few days...

I can call them again just in case!

That's what happens when you move on a weekend.

Or it could just be that some of us actually have a life during summer on the weekends...

I went back recently to figure out when I first posted. I can't remember now if it was on the firsr or second thread. But I made some comment about reading The Twin Towers again...

How embarrassing. I reckon y'all were too polite to correct a newcomer.

Well, fortunately that was the last mistake I made.

No... I think it was ~that~ last post of yours!

Seen the thread in breaking news right now?.... ( SUPREME COURT RULES BUSH CAN HOLD CITIZENS W/O CHARGE... )

people working themselves up over loss of rights and the end of the world.... Trouble is... the decision was essentially opposite to that headline. They ~will~ have the right to court. I'm not telling them either. They'll figure it out.
