... no special effects unless you count process-screen shots making Bogart and Bergman look like they're in Paris when they're in Hollywood. Location filming in Paris was out of the question at any budget unless you were a German filmmaker. "I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue."

Godzilla rocks! Whether he's friendly Godzilla or bad Godzilla, he's always guaranteed fun.

I was always astonished that that song has been in NO Godzilla movies to date. You'd think they'd have used it at least ONCE.

I agree. Actually, the films I like best are those in which he's neither good nor evil...just an animal which is dangerous based on his size and power.
In the very first movie, he only went on a rampage AFTER he was attacked. Prior to that, he was simply walking along and curiously examining things.

STOMP! A bit of diversion here.
Hey, Dog, you oughtta see GMK...watch Japanese pilots in SU-35's (!) use JDAMS against Godzilla in that one.
In the '90's movies, there were some pretty good scenes of F-15's battling both Rodan and King Ghidorah.
If that don't strike your fancy, there were these pieces of pinup art we were discussing earlier...go to spiderwebart.com for a bit of a pulse increase!

Good time to post a warning here: DO NOT buy Retromedia's new Return of the Giant Monsters/The Magic Serpent DVD. Not only are they just using faded pan n'scan prints, but apparently, fifteen minutes into Serpent, their is some sort of layer transition defect, causing the disc to either freeze or skip a chapter. And I was really looking forward to seeing Magic Serpent.
I'm one of those lucky few who live near video store which not only carries these films (they actually have separate sections devoted to classic sci-fi and classic horror) but subtitled tapes of the original Japanese prints, in the original aspect ratio. You can really appreciate an intelligent and lavish production like Atragon when you watch it they way it should be presented.

They made a movie about you, Ichneumon :-)

Thanks for the warning. There's a LOT of bad recordings and poor DVD's out there of Monster Movies.
I stick with recent, licensed releases. They're easy to find now...I get most of mine from the mall, or Amazon.

Pretty wild movie, isn't it? Godzilla looks particularly mean in that one, and he really kicks a$$, too. I can't recall him actuallyt BITING an opponent like that recently, or the clawing and animalistic fighting.
Wasn't it funny how they had the Japanese air force using Sukhois?

Looks like a great thread, but Godzilla just doesn't appeal to me. Never did. Must be something lacking in my childhood. When you've seen one city stomped into rubble, you've seen 'em all.
