The Wherify watch will allow parents to track their children to within feet anywhere in the country.
Wherify Wirless, which is selling the watches for £99, says they will provide comfort for worried parents.
Missing children could be tracked down in minutes.
The Wherify GPS locator watch is fastened to a child's wrist and can only be removed remotely.
It has been a hit in the United States, among carers of the elderly or those with Alzheimer's disease as well as parents.
Children's groups fear it could be misused by parents or become a substitute for adult supervision.
There is also concern it could be tapped into by strangers.
Dr Chris Hanby, of Barnado's, told The Times: "Our understanding so far is that none of these tracking systems prevent those who are wanting inappropriate access to children from doing so."
