Saturday, June 19, 2004 6:08 p.m. EDT Ron Jr.: Nancy Won't Address GOP Convention -- Unless Bush Caves
Former first son Ronald Reagan, Jr., said Friday that former first lady Nancy Reagan would consider addressing the GOP convention this September if President Bush drops his opposition to stem cell research.
Asked if his mother would consider such a deal, Reagan told NBC "Dateline" host Chris Matthews:
Story Continues Below
"If [President Bush] said, 'OK, I'm going to change my mind now. I've seen the light, you know, Nancy has - has shown me the light and I'm going to change my mind on - on stem-cell research, and would you please come to the convention and address it,' under those circumstances she might." Reagan, Jr. acknowledged the possibility of a stem cell-convention speech deal after saying initially that he didn't want to speculate on the prospect.
He also claimed that the former first lady was prepared to confront Bush over stem cell research if "that's what it took."
"If that's what it took, yeah, sure," he told Matthews. "She's doing what she thinks is right, and she doesn't care who's standing in her way."
The Reagan son blasted Bush as well on the Iraq war, saying he thought the president "had used religion to make his case for a lot of things . . . including Iraq."
Without citing any evidence, the presidential son also complained that Bush was trading on his father's legacy to justify the war, telling Matthews, "This is their administration; this is their war. If they can't stand on their on two feet, well, they're no Ronald Reagans, that's for sure."
Though Ron Jr. has seemed to laud his father's legacy since his death two weeks ago, the presidential son used to feel differently. During his father's presidency he made clear he opposed many of his administration's major policies.
"He's never been in lockstep with his father or his father's legacy," presidential historian Douglas Brinkley told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg last Sunday. Likewise, he's never been much of a fan of President Bush.
"What's his accomplishment?," Ron Jr. asked about George Bush during a stint as a political commentator during the 2000 campaign. "That he's no longer an obnoxious drunk?"
"we don't want Nancy there. we don't need to turn Reagan's death into our own Wellstone funeral event at the convention. the funeral and the events for Reagan went very well, something that was well deserved for him. Let him rest in peace now."
Yeah. Can you see it now? Stand up for tax cuts. Stand up for the war on terror. We will win! We will win! We will win! Stand up for the wealthy, big business owners, that hire the poor and downtrodden. We will win! We will win!
This would've been a disgrace! We don't need that and have a much higher moral standard.
It sounds to me like he doesn't really know what his fathers positions were. The guy's a maroon.
Before there is a recognizable body with the attributes Ron wants to be the only measure of that LIFE for he or she to be characterized as human being, those earliest embryo stem cells build the first organ the LIFE OF THE INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEING will require for life support during the time in the water world prior to birth to the air world ... the placenta is built by the newly conceived individual LIFE for life support in the womb, and the task to build that placenta and umbilicus begins with the first onset of cell division, the first expressions of THE INDIVIDUAL LIFE AS FOUND IN THE EARLIEST STEM CELLS AND ALL THROUGHOUT A LIFETIME OF MORE STEM CELLS, for the LIFE of the individual human being is in the blood throughout their lifetime, in the stem cells whose precursor stem cells expressed the new LIFE and continue to express the new LIFE. To kill an embryo, even fresh from an in vitro fertilization freezer, just to rip out the embryonic stem cells, is to KILL THE LIFE OF THE INDIVIDUAL PRESENTLY EXPRESSED IN THOSE STEM CELLS.
One final note: by researching on multipotent adult progenitor cells found in abundance in the adult body and in the placenta and cord blood, science will discover how the differentiation process works, and without killing another individual for their LIFE found in their embryonic stem cells. It is not cannibalism to use tissue from your own body to treat a malady you may have [Adult stem cell therapies]. IT IS CANNIBALISM to take the LIFE of another individual human being in order to treat an older individual human being [Embryonic stem cell research and cloning applications].

All I ask is that it be read and passed along, and discussion level rise using the correct facts. America, we really do need to talk about this issue and get our facts straight despite the lies and dissembling from leftists aiming only to play political gotchas.
We don't need Nancy there. The campaign is already planning a memorial video .. that's enough!
Don't believe Nancy Reagan would be this classless.
She was in a tv interview calling for stem cell research. It was her voice. I think it was on Hannity.
Welp, I suspected he was poking a jab at The President during his little soapbox "speech" at his dad's funeral. Now, I have no doubt it was directly aimed at Bush. Tsk, tsk, shame, shame... what a low-life way to opportunize and politicize--- at your dad's funeral. Especially knowing how his dad would have felt about the tactless, shameless display. AND NOW politicizing his mother in what is obviously a vulnerable, weak and emotional state. Just goes to show what low levels RATS will go to. Not that I am surprized. God help Nancy.
This article just confirms what I perceived while and just after listening to Ron's eulogy of his father.
I just hope that Patti doesn't jump on the same bandwagon.
Is Ron P. an Atheist!
Is Ron P. an Atheist!
Exactly, she is an old widow who has come under influence. Honor Ronald Reagan at the convention, not his widow. Keep your head straight about what you are doing and dont listen to the a-holes like matthews and the ballerina.
Patti is to the left of Ron. The odds are in his favor.
Good grief!
This is a lie.
President Bush does NOT oppose "stem cell research".
"If [President Bush] said, 'OK, I'm going to change my mind now. I've seen the light, you know, Nancy has - has shown me the light and I'm going to change my mind on - on stem-cell research
The ignorant Ron Jr. probably means embryonic stem cell research. He has inexcusably allowed himself to become another naive chump for the billion-dollar abortion industry. How utterly pathetic. It's one thing to be a liberal scumbag, but it's another thing to use your father's funeral to swipe at a sitting President while promoting the money-driven political agenda of a pack of lying abortion enthusiasts.

The Stem Cell Cover-Up By Michael Fumento
Looks like Ronald Reagans legacies, political and parental, are at opposite ends of the spectrum (save for Michael).
What's Ron Jr.'s accomplishment? Giving up the ballet tights? What the heck does this guy even do for a living? Use his mother as leverage against the GOP?
Of course, I don't think Bush he will.
He covers dog shows on animal planet.
