Yes it is horrible. I just saw the Chief speak, and you can tell she is devastated. I saw her speak a couple of months ago, and REALLY like her. She is African American, and came up through the ranks. She is a Godly woman, and has the utmost respect from her force. She requested prayer, and respect for the grieving period of the families, up front.

There had been a thread about it in breaking news a little earlier - but it was gone before I had a chance to read it.

I know there are a lot of folks out there that just dislike/distrust cops - but by and large the good ones FAR outnumber the bad ones that have caused that ill will. I dislike bad cops as much as the next guy, but guess what? so do good cops. This Chief sounds like a GOOD cop.

Yes, I am prejudiced, I come from 3 generations of NYPD. My younger brother was retired out early because of a line of duty injury.

It is a damn shame that the perpetrators of that crime are still alive...

Where have you been?

I've studying the Mary Celeste for reasons that don't mean much. One of the theories of this "ghost ship" is that there were two haggis aboard the ship brought on by one of the shipmates.

One haggis decided to give birth. I understand the noise is like a child learning to play the bagpipes, except louder.

No one has a photo of a haggis. No one.

Have you ever seen a haggis? If you could just tell me this is an ostrich story, I would be math ga riribh agus moran taing. Did I make sense with that sentence?

My brother has been a LAO for 20 years (FBI), and I know for a fact that no matter what awful things are said about that or any other law enforcement agency, whether true or false, the good cops by far outweigh the bad ones...

Wait a minute-isn't a haggis a Scottish sausage of some kind? I never heard that there was sausage aboard the Marie Celeste (it is an interesting story, though)...

Absolutely.

I'm the first one to fault a bad cop - but I will not tolerate the broad brush all LEO are painted with because of the misdeeds of one.

My brother and I were shielded from all the details when my dad was was shot because of our ages (I think I was about 8). it wasn't a life threatening wound, but did mean some hospital time. I remember spending a lot of time with neighbors and my grandparents and there being lots of cops around for a couple of weeks.

When I heard the Bham Chief speak, she said the reason she went into that field was because of her first-hand witnessing of the bad guys getting handouts at the back door of drug houses in the neighborhood she grew up in. She is a hero!!

Hopefully the rest of their miserable lives will be quite painful.

I agree - she is a hero.

The cops in Dover were forever getting a bad rap in the local fishwrapper from the NACCP - but let me tell you - black, white or in between those men and women responded to me anytime I called...........and I did that a lot that last year I lived there. I remember one responding officer look me straight in the eye and say "you're not giving a press release - I don't need to hear African American if he's black he's black" And this was a black cop!!!!

Welcome.
Have many odd memories like those mentioned.
And just think, since all of it has been pretty much routine for my existence, it's pretty fairly boring for me.
*chuckle*

I'm not sure, chewing on my knee only elicited my yelp of surprise, and then more effort on my part to extricate myself from the bottom of the rather weighty pile of people.
