Thursday, June 17, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 06/17/2004 5:37:05 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Haven’t checked my mood ring yet. Y’all behave yourselves, ya hear? Principal JimRob is still out of town. I expect the utmost respect on this thread today. The Mods have been overworked lately.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

Folderol, also Folderal noun:
Pronunciation: Pronounced about three different ways. Take your pick.
Etymology: Probably fr. Latin

1) Impractical, unnecessary or excessive trimming of finery or effects: pretty, but flimsy or useless ornament : something that is unnecessary: trifle, gewgaw
2) A nonessential talk or action: piffle, nonsense

Don't get me wrong - I have nothing against pipsqueaks. In fact I call my daughter a pipsqueak all the time........I was a pipsqueak when I was her age and stayed one for years..............and then I started to grow.

When I was about 30 or so, some dimbulb cracked wise at me and said "you know, smoking stunts your growth" my response was "Can you imagine how tall I would be if I never started?" I'm 5'10" and was wearing 3or 4 inch heels at the time - the dimbulb couldn't have been more than 5'7".

My mother took "mommy's little helpers" after her first pregnancy. She took them through her 9th pregnancy. Not a deformity in the bunch. We're all a little hyperactive, and I always blame that on her and her "mommy's little helpers." LOL! I have no idea what she was taking for the last two. None of us are allergic to peanuts, either.

I'll bet your homemade chicken soup is terrific! Lucky Cyber, being sick.

Wise old saying: When we lie down, we're all the same height.

I don't even want you to know from whom I heard that little line.

It is good! He can smell it right now, and he's waiting for it to be ready for him to eat.

Actually, one of our doctors told us to either take Pedialyte or homemade chicken soup. By this afternoon, he'll be up and at 'em.

He's very lucky he can work from home. He just tells his computers at work what to do. Actually, he made a program just for that reason.

She's baaaaaack! As I was leaving the house where I did my last estimate this afternoon, I realized how close I was to Lackland AFB and the commissary, so I went and got a month's groceries, came home and put them all away. I'm now doing a couple of loads of laundry, and I'm going to grill some chicken for muself and Husky girl for supper.

I hope your hubby's tooth gets better-that is wretched.

You don't have to cook the filled jars of pickles in boiling water if you use hot brine, unless you want your pickles less crisp. I like anything pickled extra crunchy...

I had the reality warping experience of having a woman taller than I by way more than head and shoulders tell me that I "Was going to go out with her", and she proceded to pick my short butt up off the ground.
I think she coined the term 'resistance is futile.'

LOL!
I heard it from a close friend under the most surreal of circumstances.
Starts out with me complaining about being short and everyioe in teh group having a height advantage while play fighting or wrestling around.
She grinned at me and said that.
And then proceeded to try to make a sandwich out of my kneecap.

When he finally decided to take more than just 1 ibuprofen at a time it finally kicked in and he started getting a bit of relief - that occurred while he was on his was to the pharmacy - he now has an antibiotic in him and is sitting watching the news with a bowl of french onion soup, with a piece of whole wheat provolone topped bread floating in it.

the little one is asleep - she got off the bus at 2pm with a headache and tunny ache....she told me she wants chicken noodle soup for dinner - thankfully I have some in the fridge.

Which all means that I get to have anything my little heart desires for dinner this evening!!!!!! There's still some shrimp salad left from last night, and I think I will have a lox and cream cheese topped bagel along with it!

Thanks for the tip on the pickles - I don't mind limp bread and butter pickle slices - but everything else I prefer very crisp and I LOVE pickles. Do they need to be refrigerated or will they keep in the pantry the way processed ones do?

Well, good for you and Husky girl! I would grill a lot more here if it weren't so danged hot in the summer.

Temperatures are actually measured in the shade. We have gadgets (Cyber's love) in the backyard and front yard to measure the temperature in the heat. I just watered a few of my special flowers in the back, and it was 111. The front yard shows a lot higher. My weather bug is showing *only* 102. A few days ago it was 120 in the backyard.

Way too hot to barbecue. I'm thinking of getting an indoor one because I love barbecued food.

I'm glad you got your work, groceries and everything done today. Maybe tomorrow you can come out and play.

"Do they need to be refrigerated or will they keep in the pantry the way processed ones do?"

My question, also. I just do small amounts and keep them in the fridge, but if I could do large amounts, I could store them.

Birmingham had 3 cops shot and killed this afternoon while delivering a misdemeanor warrant. They were shot with an SKS assault rifle, and 4 suspects are in custody.

They will keep in the pantry just like pepper and vinegar sauce does, but I always keep at least one jar in the fridge because not only to I like crisp pickles, I like COLD pickles.

Your dinner makes me wish I had some shrimp instead of that chicken...

Absolutely pickles have to be kept ice cold....again, thanks for the tips. With no central air if I can limit how much time I've got to have the canning pot going this summer - the happier I will be.

I had originally planned on cooking chicken but a tooth-aching hubby and tummy-aching child precluded that.

But there is a kids fishing tournament Saturday that we're going to take Jax to and after that we're going to head for our favorite surf fishing spot ........... so tomorrow - when I'm cutting up the 10 pounds of chicken legs I bought last night, I'm going to put half of it in the oven to pack in the cooler on Saturday.
