Word For The Day, Thurday, June 17, 2004
Thursday, June 17, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 06/17/2004 5:37:05 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Haven’t checked my mood ring yet. Y’all behave yourselves, ya hear? Principal JimRob is still out of town. I expect the utmost respect on this thread today. The Mods have been overworked lately.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

Folderol, also Folderal noun:
Pronunciation: Pronounced about three different ways. Take your pick.
Etymology: Probably fr. Latin

1) Impractical, unnecessary or excessive trimming of finery or effects: pretty, but flimsy or useless ornament : something that is unnecessary: trifle, gewgaw
2) A nonessential talk or action: piffle, nonsense

Beware: what we perceive as folderol, tomfoolery, buffoonery, nitwittery, and general idiocy are more likely an integral part of the Left's conspiracy to de-throne GWB.

Only a modest sampling of its minions:
George Soros
Warren Buffet
Brokaw/Jennings/Rather
Entire cast of "60 Minutes"
Lying, bloviating dimocrats in the House & Senate
Kofi "The Korrupt" Annan
Everybody else at the (corrupt) United Nations
Hans "Can't Find My Arse with Both Hands" Blix
Leftover Klintoon appointees at the State Dept, et al
98% of the chemically-impaired entertainment "industry" (aka "Hollyweirdos")
Virtually every faculty member at all US colleges
The vast majority of the employees at NPR and PBS
The French government
The German government

I'm sure I've omitted many of the morons...but you know who they are.

i started Richard Poe's book, Hillary's Secret War, several nights ago, and those 2 nights i could NOT sleep, when i read it in bed. Last night, i read John Stoessel's book instead and drifted right off...

We were eyeing a pool in WalMart last night....3' deep 18' diameter....will see what happens.

There a kids fishing tournament on Saturday that we're taking her to and after that we'll head for the bayside beach for a picnic and some surf fishing. I didn't get my normal Mother's day day like that so we are going to do a combination for both Mother's Day and Father's Day!

Was it you who commented about going to Williamsburg some time this summer? coolbreeze has taken a bunch of thursdays off for 3 day weekends and that is a place I would like to visit again. I heard an ad on the radio yesterday that the County is offering discount passes to Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion and one other place..I'm seriously thinking of taking advantage of the Busch Garden's ones.

I understand.
Rather than torture myself with the gory details of that b!tch's unquenchable thirst for power, I have just accepted the fact that she is, in all likelihood, an agent of Satan sent to destroy every last remnant of decency on Earth.

Scary part for me: step-daughter was an excellent driver, and actually got a car in skid conditions under control in under 3 seconds.
(89 VW Golf 2 door, full on spin on ice at 40MPH but admittedly under 'test/purposeful' conditions.)
I was very proud of her, so I had a bit of disbelief when I was told that she had been in a fatal car accident.
But tyhat was December 29, 2000 and life doesn't stop and wait for you.
So I've had to learn to deal with it more or less.
Doesn't make it hurt less, but you can at least live some.

She isn't in a hurry to drive?
Hmm.. seems odd to my experience.
Step-daughter wanted to drive for years, and she had it as a point of personal pride when she drove 'solo' the first time.
When xsteen does learn to drive, take her to a parking lot or deserted paved expanse and have her toss the car around. Also have her put the car into a skid and spin so that she knows what the car feels like before breaking free from the pavement.

It does answer the question of what kind of Pirates they have in Pittsburgh.

and has your wife been dealing also? i am so sorry that you both had to go through such a tragedy.

we live in No.VA. there is a crapload of traffic here. xsteen's HS is in DC, which means her route for getting even to SCHOOL would be a 4 lane, HOV regulated, US route 66. i grew up in rural PA. learning to drive was not a huge deal in my experience. when i even think of her driving to the grocery store near my house, with me SITTING NEXT TO HER< i get the willies. we will do the learners permit this summer and she will log a million miles before she is allowed out of the house on her own, but i am dreading it.

Good start on the list. I'll make it easier though.

Well, there was 'only' 6 years difference in age between step-daughter and myself.
(She 'picked me out' for her mom, long story, deals with being friends and gettiong asked why I didn't date much.. and then being setup on a blind date. ['set up' being the operative terms here])

But yes, she did call me "dad" often and with pride.
(And pointedly in front of certain giggly girl types at the mall. a few funny anecdotes about that to relate.)

Commissioner Jacqueline St. Joan said she felt Hoffman "put her foot in her mouth," with her remarks on the C-word.

I think she put her foot somewhere else and maybe also her leg. What an idiot. Is she trying to be Madonnaesque/Esther?

You've got an A+ for Monday when you're gone. I'll make sure it gets put in the book for Miss Rika's perusal.
