Something happened on the way to the (NBA) coronation

That "something" being, no one seemed to tell the Detroit Pistons that the L.A. Lakers were supposed to be unbeatable.

From the announcers down to the (so called) experts that were shown on the pre-game and half-time telecasts. You could almost hear the tears rolling down their cheeks at the thought of not being able to go back out to LA LA Land to rub elbows with the "stars" that attend the games there.
BTW, y'all look pretty geeky holding those microphones in front of your faces. Can't the network supply y'all with headsets?

It was all the Lakers this and the Lakers that, wall to wall and non-stop, even up to the end. So much so that it made someone, that really didn't care much at the start, want to see the Lakers get beat (badly) just to spite them and their bias.

Congatuation to the Detriot Pistons!! Bravo to the underdogs!!!

No one will be able to tell the difference anyway.

The disparity in fouls in this series is deeply disturbing...< /Sacramento Kings>

In reality, the Lakers played poorly all series and the Pistons played well enough to win.

Congrats Pistons. Good luck Detroit.

"Detroit has a history of celebrations turning ugly. After the Tigers won the 1984 World Series, 100,000 poured into the streets, with the disturbances resulting in one death. And after the Pistons beat Portland in 1990 for a second-straight NBA title, the rampage resulted in seven deaths and widespread looting".

In reality, the Lakers played poorly all series

Larry Brown did an incredible job of training these guys to attack the Lakers in their vulnerable area. Just let Shaq and Kobey get their points but shut down everyone else, which is not hard to do, since they have no one else, really.

The Lakers need to do a full rebuild job next year!

The grand plan of Karl and Payton didn't pan our. Karl was hurt and Payton, was he even there. It went back to the Shaq and Kobe show, only without the quality role players they had before.

Payton just never felt comfortable in the triangle offense at any time this year.

I heard that the Lakers set some NBA record in this series (before today) -- 4 straight games played with only 2 guys (Kobe and Shaq) scoring in double figures each game.

I'd get rid of the Zen master and start from scratch (with Kobe and Shaq as the foundation). .......and keep Malone and Payton if possible, who may just have one more good year left in them. The team needs a spark, and a coaching change could do the trick.

From what I've heard, the only place Payton feels comfortable is in the Hall of Mirrors.
